Let’s find the Mets starting pitchers, Part 1

With Jacob deGrom having officially signed a five-year deal with the Texas Rangers, the Mets’ need for starting pitching is even more obvious than it was when the offseason began. At the moment, the team’s rotation would include Max Scherzer and Carlos Carrasco, presumably followed up by the likes of David Peterson, Tylor Megill, and Elieser Hernández.

AP source: Orioles, RHP Kyle Gibson agree to 1-year contract

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles have agreed to a one-year contract with right-hander Kyle Gibson, adding a veteran arm to their pitching staff ahead of the winter meetings. A person familiar with the negotiations confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on Saturday night on condition of anonymity because the agreement is pending a physical. Gibson, 35, went 10-8 with a 5.05 ERA in 31 starts for Philadelphia this year. He also pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in two relief appearances in the postseason as the Phillies made it to the World Series before losing to Houston. The contract gives Baltimore another experienced arm as it looks to build on its surprising 2022 season. After losing 110 games the previous year, the Orioles contended for an AL wild card for much of the summer before finishing 83-79 for the franchise’s first winning record since 2016.

Cubs Prospects Could Escape Rule 5 Draft List for Only So Long: Two Pitchers Called Out This Time

Today, Baseball America dropped its fourth updated Rule 5 Draft prospect list and, alas, at last, two Chicago Cubs prospects are included. The list is up to 45 names, so having two Cubs prospects on their as potential draft targets for other teams isn’t exactly horrible, but it was kinda fun to think about the Cubs being able to keep all of their exposed prospects. That still might wind up the case – these lists are outsider perspectives, and are not a perfect proxy for the players a team might actually draft – but I don’t even like Cubs prospects getting pub in advance of Wednesday’s draft.

The Boston Red Sox and right-handed reliever Chris Martin have agreed to a two-year, $17.5 million deal, according to multiple reports. The deal's completion is contingent on a physical. Red Sox to sign RHP Chris Martin to two-year deal

The Red Sox and reliever Chris Martin are in agreement on a two-year deal, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. The deal is pending a physical and will be worth $17.5MM. Martin, 37 in June, has had one of the more unique baseball trajectories. As detailed in this 2019 piece from Tim Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Martin had shoulder surgery in 2006 that he thought was the end of his career. Years later, he was working for Lowe’s and UPS and discovered during a game of catch with friends that his shoulder didn’t bother him anymore.
