Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Is A Faithful But Modern Remake

Fire Emblem Gaiden is the black sheep of the Fire Emblem franchise; it used gameplay mechanics that were never again seen in later games and disregarded many of the series other traditions. Instead of making it similar to the other games, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia chooses to be faithful to the original by keeping almost all of the gameplay the same and only adding in various quality of life updates. The largest changes pertained to the graphics, art, and story as Intelligent Systems wanted to make the game fit in a bit more with the rest of the series.

The Guilty: Remake Delivers The Thrills

The Guilty remakes another foreign language film but this one is the best of the two TIFF premieres that largely depend on one person. The film is based on Den Skyldige. However, I cannot tell you whether this film works better or doesn’t because I didn’t see the original. I can tell you that The Guilty is effective as a thriller. This is a film that has Jake Gyllenhaal working overtime as a 911 dispatcher amid an hour and a half runtime. Could the film be longer? Possibly. But for what we have, it’s very capable of having audiences on the edge of their seats. And really, this is the bare minimum that audiences are asking of thrillers. Keep us entertained and on the edge of our seats!

This Movie Remake Is Better Than The Original

The history of American movies includes films that were much better than their remakes, both in terms of the box office and the opinions of critics. Among the best known is “Scent of a Women”, released in 1992, and starring Al Pacino. An obscure version was released in 1974.  Another, “Lassie”, a famous TV show […]

Resident Evil 1 fan remake gives the original Survival Horror a first person mode

The original Resident Evil changed the games industry when it came to survival horror experiences, and quickly became a cultural icon for Horror fanatics. Since then it has seen a fair few remakes, but not quite anything like the recent REmakes Capcom has developed. Nevertheless, a fan remake of the original Resident Evil in Unity includes a first person camera that completely changes the feel of the game.

ActRaiser got a remake, so now it’s time for a Soul Blazer trilogy revival

Yesterday, out of nowhere, Square Enix unleashed ActRaiser Renaissance upon the world for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PC, and even mobile devices. ActRaiser is a cherished SNES title from developer Quintet published by Enix that is remembered for its awesome soundtrack and innovative mix of sidescrolling and god simulation gameplay. It went on to influence majorly successful (and also not) titles, but Square Enix hadn’t shown real interest in the IP in over a decade — until now. I’m honestly stunned and happy to learn that Square Enix hasn’t forgotten its Quintet library. So with that in mind, it would be spectacular to see Square Enix pursue a revival of Quintet’s Soul Blazer trilogy from SNES next. Regardless of if it’s a straight port, a remaster, or a remake, the time is now for a revival of the trilogy of Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma.

Remastered cinematics for Diablo 2: Resurrected are staggeringly beautiful remakes of the originals

One of the most dramatic updates in Diablo 2: Resurrected is remastered versions of the game’s cinematics, which follow the originals frame for frame, but in high resolution that brings out details you never noticed before. I’m impressed by what I’ll call cinematography, even though these weren’t filmed, because it’s the best way to convey the over the top cinematic vibe of the remastered scenes. These updated cinematics are ably assisted by the original voice acting — it’s all the same sound files as the originals, only the graphics are updated.
