Thomas showed his ability during Jackson's Rec Center Relays on Thursday in Cape Girardeau, Mo., helping lead three of his four relays to gold-medal finishes and the Indians to an overall team victory.

Runners readying for relay, new to Monument Marathon

Local runner Carl Baird has crossed the finish line at the Platte Valley Companies’ Monument Marathon every year since the race began. He has run both the full and half-marathons. This year, he’ll be among the 30 teams competing in the half-marathon relay, the first relay held as part of the marathon.

Prep girls swim and dive: Rice Lake adds conference dual win over Chippewa Falls

A strong start to the season continues for the Rice Lake girls swim and dive team. The Warriors added another Big Rivers Conference dual win on Thursday over Chippewa Falls 100-70 at the Rice Lake Pool. After a three-week break between its first and second events, Rice Lake has won two conference duals and the Superior Relays since returning to action.

Monona Grove girls swim dominates at Stoughton, Baraboo Relays

The Silver Eagles handily took a first-place finish at the Baraboo Relays on Saturday, Sept. 11. In the girls 500-yard freestyle relay, junior Gabby Holler, freshman Breleigh Ganshert, junior Morgan Heilman and freshman Brynn Jondle won with a time of four minutes and 57.67 seconds. Breleigh Ganshert, sophomore Kelley Ryan, Heilman and freshman Jordan Sarubbi won with a time of 1:44.75 in the 4x50 relay.

Saints earn second-place finish in Cougar Relays

Saturday afternoon the St. Peter swim and dive team traveled to Mankato to take part in the six-team Cougar Relays hosted by Mankato East. The Saints continued to build off a strong start to the season, finishing second with 104 points, trailing only the Mankato West Scarlets who finished with 128 points.

Several passionate historians met in Amboy to recreate history for youth and adults who visited their camp set up behind Urban Oil. Pella Swimmers with NCMP Aquagirls Have Successful Home Meet

It was another successful night for the Pella High swimmers with the NCMP Aquagirls at Newton, after the team defeated Oskaloosa 132-32 in varsity competition Tuesday. Hannah Nedder earned first place in three relays and in the 100 yard freestyle. Maylei Ruggles placed 1st in three relays as well, and in the 100 yard butterfly. Alexa Heiar earned three first place relay finishes and 2nd in the 400 yard freestyle. Emily Mills, Emily Vander Molen, and Ellie Wogen also each participated in a winning relay.

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots look to win their third game in a row when they travel to Elmore to take on the Edgewood Academy Wildcats on Friday night. Since losing to Escambia Academy 42-26, the Patriots have rattled off three wins in a row-including a win by forfeit. In the last two weeks, the Patriots have picked up region wins over Hooper Academy and Lee-Scott Academy.

Badger runner breaks school record

The Badger boys cross-country program has a new record holder after senior Demetrius Farmakis ran a time of 15:58 at the Southern Lakes Conference Relays on Sept. 9. “I put in a lot of work over the summer, and being able to see that pay off so much, it’s incredible,” Farmakis said.
