TAUNTON — It was an eventful season on the links for Greater Taunton high school golfers this fall. Bridgewater-Raynham defended its Southeastern Conference crown again to make it three straight titles, while the area had individual qualifiers for both the MIAA Division I and Division III State Championships. Dighton-Rehoboth and Bristol-Plymouth both put in impressive seasons while Taunton swept its non-league season series with New Bedford.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, small forward Frankie Sanders signed with the team as a free agent after having been cut by the team that drafted him that very year. A native of Dayton, Ohio, Sanders played his college ball at Southern University and then later transferred to A&M College, from which he was picked up by the San Antonio Spurs with the 20th overall pick of the 1978 NBA draft. He would play a mere 22 games for that club before getting in trouble with drugs and nightlife, finding the NBA much more challenging to function in than at the collegiate level.

It was a block party at the XL Center for the University of Connecticut. The UConn Huskies put on a show for the UConn crowd in another Big East showdown at home that included 10 blocks as a team. While their previous Big East XL Center matchup didn’t go as well against Providence College, this game was the complete opposite.
