PROSPECT, Ore. – Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Search and Rescue (SAR) saved a 77-year-old man this morning after he was stranded in the snow for two days. SAR vehicle teams and the Snowcat began looking for the man last night at 1:55 a.m. after he was reported missing in the area of Elk Creek Road outside of Prospect. The SAR Snowcat located the man around 8 a.m. this morning approximately 10 miles off the Elk Creek Rd. on National Forest Road 6640. Two days ago, he attempted to turn his truck around before becoming stuck in two to three feet of snow. He spent the last two nights in his truck without a functioning heater but was located in good spirits with a mild case of hypothermia.

Elderly Oregon man rescued after spending 2 days in truck stuck in the snow

PROSPECT Ore. (KPTV) - A 77-year-old man was rescued by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team after spending two days stranded in the snow. The man was reported missing late Tuesday night in the vicinity of Elk Creek Road west of Prospect. Then, around 8 a.m. Wednesday deputies discovered the man about 10 miles off the road.

Thomas Cook's legacy felt throughout Denton County

Thomas Cook was a blacksmith at the top of his game in 1880. His shop sat 14 miles northwest of Denton near present-day Bolivar. Born in 1840, Cook was freed from slavery when he was 25 years old. He worked 10-hour days, five days a week, providing essential blacksmith items for cowboys and settlers traveling the Chisum Trail. The trail ran through John Chisum’s ranch near Bolivar, although Chisum moved his ranch to West Texas in 1863.
