Interview with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull: "Progressive Rock? In THIS direction!"

A few years ago, Ian Anderson didn't think that another album under the name of Jethro Tull would be a very good idea. Fortunately, the prog legend has changed his mind. "The Zealot Gene" is the first Jethro Tull longplayer in 18 years — although Anderson has been consistently releasing music under his own name that could have easily passed as Jethro Tull albums. "The Zealot Gene" is exactly what his fans have hoped for — classic Tull — and celebrates the band's longest lasting line-up in its rich history.

Gilmore Trail - Impermanence

Post Rock | Chasmata Records | Release date: 21 Jan 2022. Somewhere in the midst of their previous album, The Floating World, there is distant thunder. On this new album there is a rumbling thunderstorm nearby at the beginning of the sixth track. Let that be a metaphor for this new album which has expanded the scope of the band´s epic music. The high pitched melodic guitars, the heavy crushing parts, the distinct leading bass and the energetic drumming are all there with guest musicians creating a visionary new musical path for the band at the same time being deeply rooted in Post-Rock.

Updates and other random Rush stuff

Earlier this week Alex Lifeson posted a new video update for his newsletter subscribers in which he rambles on for over 12 minutes from under his computer desk about a number of random subjects including his Envy of None project, his new amp, his cat, getting vaccinated and other stuff. Probably the biggest piece of news that he brought up was how he will be auctioning off much of his guitar collection this year, and has already begun packing them up in preparation. This wasn't the first time he'd mentioned this however - he had actually already revealed his plans to auction off the collection for charity in his Make Weird Music interview from nearly a year ago as described in this article. Other than that, it's just 12 minutes of Big Al being hilarious and weird. If you aren't subscribed to his newsletter, you can do so here. You can also watch the video below or on Vimeo.
