Can London Fashion Week Come Back Alive?

LONDON — At the beginning of the year, many London brands found themselves on the brink of collapse due to prolonged winter lockdowns and post-Brexit trading complications. Almost overnight, fabric prices spiked for brands sourcing from Europe, production cycles were delayed, and brands’ sales in Europe dramatically dropped as retailers and customers didn’t want to pay the added customs charges.

Insiders Told Me 5 Street Style Trends That Will Pop Off at Fashion Month

Fashion month has officially arrived and along with it one of my favorite parts: street style. Seeing what editors, buyers, and fashion insiders are wearing to the shows, I always find so much inspiration. The trends really come alive on the street style scene and I’ve missed its absence over the last year and a half. Now that it’s back in full swing, which street style trends can we expect to see during the S/S 22 season?

Pick of the week’s TV films: Sicario, Braveheart, The Devil Wears Prada

New graduate Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) lands a plum job as second assistant to the fearsome Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), esteemed editor of Runway magazine. Andy hopes the position will be a stepping-stone to serious political journalism and is unprepared for the immense challenges that lie ahead, catering to her tyrannical boss’s every whim. David Frankel’s smartly tailored adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s international best-seller is delicious. Streep glides through every frame in swathes of Galliano, Valentino and, of course, Prada, armed to her polished teeth with a dizzying array of knockout one-liners. As despicable as Miranda may be, Streep expertly reveals the chinks in her villainess’ designer-label armour, showing glimmers of vulnerability beneath the impeccably coiffed facade.

Met Gala 2021: Red Carpet Looks That Absolutely Nailed It

The most awaited and in fact one of the biggest fashion events of the year – the Met Gala – took place on 13th September 2021. A fundraising benefit for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, this gala welcomed prominent celebrities, young creatives, designers, models and other paragons from the industry. After a year of hiatus due to the pandemic, this event was a much-needed refresher. Swarmed with paparazzi and renowned media outlets, the Met Gala garners considerable attention. The theme for this year was ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’, a tribute to the creativity of American style. Each celebrity wove their own interpretation of the theme into a costume, with the help of distinguished designers. Numerous celebrities even kept in mind the importance of climate change, donning the most gorgeous looks in outfits that were environmentally sustainable. Here are some iconic looks from the Met Gala that have indubitably left us spellbound:

The Bags of New York Fashion Week Spring 2022: Day 5

Spotting the bags and style outside of Fashion Week was one of my favorite aspects of being invited to the shows. Sure, the shows were great – but the people watching, I lived for the people watching. It happens to be one of your favorite features as well, and while Vlad wasn’t there to snap outside of the shows himself this year, one of our NYC-based photographers was, and snapped she did. We have 2 more days of bag and style content from outside of the shows to delight you with a wide range of different bags and eclectic styles. And yes, we started on day 5 this season, so you won’t have a full week of content, but we will be bringing more street-style photos from around the globe.

Costume Designers Are Stars On Social Media. So Why Aren’t They Being Paid That Way?

It’s been 73 years since the first Oscar for Best Costume Design was awarded. Back then, the category was divided into two awards — for black-and-white and color films — with Roger K. Furse winning the former for Hamlet and Dorothy Jenkins and Barbara Karinska taking home the gold statue for Joan of Arc. While their names went down in history, these costume designers did not enjoy the celebrity of today’s pros like Sex and the City’s Patricia Field and Gossip Girl’s Eric Daman.

Barneys New York x 1989 Collection Available on September 27

Barneys is set to release a collection with emerging designer brand 1989, to be launched and led by 1989’s creative director Chaz A. Jordan. The line is inspired by the skate and hip-hop culture of Jordan’s youth. Expect to see 90’s and early 2000’s selections such as the brand’s signature “skater fit” 701 denim jeans, embroidered using traditional Japanese chain stitching techniques, as well as oversized graphic tees with bling stitched hems. This ready-to-wear collection marks the beginning of a partnership between 1989 and Barneys, with the next collection to focus on women’s garments.

I Tried Out a Wearable Black Card Throughout Fashion Week

On the last day of Fashion Week, completely thirsty and late for a show, I ran to Dunkin’ Donuts and ordered a large iced tea for $2.49. I couldn’t be bothered to take out my debit card or even pull down my mask to access my digital wallet, so instead, I swiped my hand across the scanner. If you look closely, you’d see a sleek black leather band double-wrapped around my wrist: a Prada Centurion wearable. A tiny chip was implanted into the band, which was connected to my credit card allowing me to easily and swiftly maneuver through daily life like I was some sort of Gattaca babe.
