Severe storms leave thousands without power, funnel cloud reported

OXFORD, Maine — Severe storms moved through Maine Wednesday afternoon and evening, causing damage and thousands of power outages. “We heard the crunch and looked out and saw branches going by the windows,” said Waterford resident Stephen Knight, while taking stock of the damage to the property along Route 37 he shares with family.

Highway 101 re-opened after downed tree (updated)

UPDATE 9 a.m. — The road has been cleared and is now open. MENDOCINO Co., 9/16/21 — Highway 101 is currently closed in both directions in the vicinity of the Peg House north of Leggett due to a downed tree and there is no current estimated time of re-opening provided by Caltrans. The tree may have taken down power lines, according to the California Highway Patrol incident page.

Monday accident victim identified

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s website identified a man killed in a Monday Cleburne traffic accident as Maximiliano Reuben Lara, 32, of Whitney. Although the accident remains under investigation, police said it appears that Lara failed to yield at a light while turning left and pulled in front of an oncoming tractor trailer.

Ørsted looking at IR power plant for wind-farm infrastructure

At their first breakfast meeting since March 2020, members of the Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce heard an update on planned wind farm projects off the Delaware coast. Matt Drew, onshore infrastructure construction manager for the Swedish wind-energy firm Ørsted, and Brady Walker, Mid-Atlantic market manager for Ørsted, told the Chamber members at the meeting, held at the Fenwick Shores hotel, that the Skipjack wind farm is moving forward, with “high hopes” of involving local contractors in the construction of the project, according to Drew.

Downed wires bring major delays on Amtrak, NJ Transit rail lines

Major delays were reported on NJ Transit and Amtrak rail service Thursday night because of downed wires near the Amtrak Portal Bridge, according to the transit agencies. NJ Transit train service in and out of New York Penn Station was delayed up to an hour as of 10 p.m., the agency said on its website.
