Portugal Reopens to Non-Essential U.S. Travel

Portugal has reopened its borders to U.S. travelers who test negative for Covid-19. As of Tuesday, "non-essential" travelers can enter mainland Portugal so long as they can submit a negative Covid-19 taken within 72 hours of travel, or within 24 hours of travel for rapid antigen tests, according to an update from the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Portugal. The embassy and consulate noted that Portugal remains in a "state of calamity," with some restrictive measures in place related to closing times of restaurants and tourist attractions as well as mask use and social distancing. The new measure for U.S. travelers currently runs through June 27 and will be reviewed for renewal at that time, according to the update.
