Player Preview: Fred VanVleet takes the point guard mantle

Through all the pre-game hype videos at the Raptors home opener on Wednesday — the Kardi singalongs, the palpable joy of seeing Canada’s basketball team back in, well, Canada — you could feel the absence of Kyle Lowry. That much was obvious. Lowry and the Raptors have been so synonymous...

Chris Paul reaches 20,000 points as the Phoenix Suns beat the Los Angeles Lakers

Point guard Chris Paul achieved the career milestone of scoring 20,000 points as his Phoenix Suns humbled the Los Angeles Lakers 115-105 on a dramatic night in California. Paul finished with 23 points and 14 assists – the 36-year-old also became the first player in the league’s history to record 20,000 points and 10,000 assists – while Devin Booker poured in 14 for the defending Western Conference champions.

Duke offers two Five-Star Brewster Academy teammates

Duke has extended two more offers in the 2023 recruiting class, yesterday tapping Five-Star Brewster Academy teammates Taylor Bowen and Matas Buzelis after a campus visit. The pair are the fifth and sixth players to be offered by the Blue Devils in the junior class, joining Point Guard Caleb Foster (already verbally committed), Small Forwards Mackenzie Mgbako and JJ Taylor, and Power Forward G.G. Jackson.

Philadelphia 76ers: Tyrese Maxey passes first test as point guard for the Sixers

Tyrese Maxey gave the Philadelphia 76ers hope at the point guard position in the team’s season-opening win as Ben Simmons’ situation remains unresolved. With Ben Simmons suspended for the season opener, and the likelihood that he will probably get traded sooner or later, the Philadelphia 76ers started a new era at the point guard position. Tyrese Maxey got the start for the Sixers against the undermanned New Orleans Pelicans to open the regular season and he passed his first test with flying colors.

Trae Young Starts Season With 19 Points, 14 Assists

12 hours agoAtlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young opened the season with a 19-point, 14-assist effort in a 113-87 win over Dallas, shooting 6-for-16 from the field with a 2-for-5 mark from outside while hitting all of his five free throws. He added two rebounds to his tally and had one steal with five turnovers in 33 minutes. There are high hopes for the Hawks this season, and Young is expected to lead the charge. He could very well end up being a walking double-double since he's got a lot of passing options. Young is set for another nice performance this week, with the Hawks visiting Cleveland on Saturday. The Cavaliers had an awful start defensively, giving up over 130 points to the Grizzlies.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller.

Sixers: Missed free agent opportunities at point guard

As the Ben Simmons saga continues to drag on and continues to look increasingly toxic, let’s take a look at some of the point guards that the Sixers missed out on this past offseason. I’ve broken these players down into three categories: “The Veterans”, “The Ring Chasers” and “Something to Prove.”

Projecting Auburn basketball's starting lineup

Auburn has something they haven’t had at every position under Bruce Pearl. The Tigers dipped into the transfer portal and picked up three transfer guards to solidify the depth there. Auburn can go four-deep at small forward. The Tigers have a spot-up shooter in Jabari Smith at power forward… and don’t forget Auburn has three centers on the roster who are expected to play significant minutes.

Detroit Pistons: Projecting the starting lineup for opening night

The Detroit Pistons are a much different team from what they were even one year ago today. At that time, the November draft had not yet occurred, and there were still some players on the team from the previous management regime. In 2021, several players are beginning their second season...

Philadelphia 76ers: Point guard Furkan Korkmaz isn’t a new development

The Philadelphia 76ers are 1-0 in the Tyrese Maxey-era. Now granted, that era has lasted precisely one day and may come to a screeching pause if Ben Simmons suits up for the home opener on Friday, but at the moment, the Sixers are coming off of a 20 point win, the team got two made 3s from their point guard, and can’t nobody tell a fanbase on Could 9 nothing.

Detroit Pistons: Predicting roles for the entire Pistons’ roster

The Detroit Pistons kick off their season on Wednesday against the Chicago Bulls at home. Despite having one of the worst records in the league last season, there is plenty of excitement around the team from fans, specifically around their young core. This year, the Pistons will likely still be...

Illinois Basketball: Jeremy Fears Jr. could be the next great Illini point guard

I have mentioned this many times and I will mention it again, the class of 2023 is huge for the Illinois basketball team. Over the past couple of years, the Illini have had teams good enough to make back-to-back NCAA tournaments. They are poised to make it three in a row this season. Not having a drop-off from this great success is going to be key, though. That is why a player like Jeremy Fears Jr is so crucial to the future of the program.
