Area Briefs: Former Sherando player McKnight earns football accolade

— Former Sherando High School football player Brady McKnight earned First Team All-Pioneer Football League honors this week as a long snapper at Morehead State University. The freshman helped the NCAA Division I Eagles lead the league in punting and had no bad snaps. His efforts helped punter Andrew Foster set a league record for punting average and also set and re-set the program record for consecutive PATs made.

Northern head football coach resigns

The Montana State University-Northern football program is now searching for a head coach. Monday, Montana State University-Northern football head coach Andrew Rolin announced on his Twitter account that he was resigning from his position in the program. Rolin informed his team Monday morning that he would be moving on from the program.

Pioneer Football League Names Two Tommies Freshmen of the Year

After a stellar Division I debut, the end-of-season awards are starting to roll in for the St. Thomas football team. The Pioneer Football League has named two Tommies - running back Hope Adebayo and linebacker Luke Herzog - its top freshmen for the 2021 season. The awards make St. Thomas the first school to claim both the league's Freshman Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors since 2008. Adebayo ran for 658 yards and 12 touchdowns, while Herzog had 47 tackles and four sacks.
