PGA Championship cut line 2021: Projected cut, rules, updates for Friday's leaderboard

Several top-flight golfers are flirting with the cut line at the 2021 PGA Championship on Friday. The top of the 2021 leaderboard has plenty of contenders who can challenge for the Wanamaker Trophy over the weekend, despite the windy conditions at Kiawah Island. That includes Canadian Corey Conners, who opened up a two-stroke lead to finish atop Thursday's Round 1 field at 5-under par. Brooks Koepka and Keegan Bradley were also in the mix among a group of six at 3 under trailing Conners in a tie for second.

PGA Championship 2021 live updates: Phil Mickelson soars up leader board, grabs solo lead at Kiawah

Day 1 at Kiawah Island did not disappoint, as Pete Dye’s menacing layout defended itself nicely against the best players in the world. Corey Conners’ 5-under 67 was the best round by two, but there were only six other rounds in the 60s (Brooks Koepka, Viktor Hovland, Keegan Bradley, Aaron Wise, Sam Horsfield and Cameron Davis all shot 3-under 69s). The opening-round scoring average was 74.781, surely inflated by a handful of mid-80s rounds from club pros in the field—but hey, tour pros weren’t immune to the big numbers, too. PGA Championship 2021: This club pro's WILD stretching routine puts Miguel Ángel Jiménez's stretching routine to shame

We thought we already saw the best warmup routine of PGA Championship week from John Daly on Thursday morning. We thought wrong. On Friday morning, Sky Sports cameras captured an even better one from a club pro on the Kiawah Island range, and it didn't involve a cigarette or a Diet Coke. Here's Brad Marek channeling his inner Miguel Ángel Jiménez prior to his 2:38 p.m. ET tee time:

PGA Championship 2021: All hail Jordan Spieth, still the greatest golf ball beggar (and self-talker) in world history

As far as I can tell, this clip of Jordan Spieth aggressively and then plaintively—almost desperately—begging his ball to stay on the 14th green in yesterday's first round at Kiawah is not on Twitter, so you'll have to click through to ESPN. This is the best I can do, but if you're a student of Spieth's incredible self-talk, I highly recommend it:

PGA Championship 2021 tee times, TV coverage, live stream & more to watch in Thursday's Round 1

The PGA Championship is once again heading back to Kiawah Island Golf Resort, S.C. — the first time the event has been played there since 2012. That should be welcome news for Rory McIlroy, the No. 7 golfer in the world and this weekend's betting favorite. He won that year's event with a score of 13-under par and an eight-stroke lead over second-place finisher David Lynn. He also won the event in 2014, but has not won another major since.
