There may be two new Star Trek films coming soon. There may be two Star Trek films coming very soon to a screen near you. There is already one Trek film in the works, with Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer writing the film, and Matt Shakman directing. While rumors have the crew attached to a potential Star Trek 4, with Chris Pine eyed to return as Captain James Kirk, it could be a brand new original film. According to Giant Freakin Robot, two films are currently in the works.

The streamer revealed that the YA series, which is a modern take on the 1997 slasher, is set to debut in October, setting the scene for Halloween this year. The project is from py Sony Pictures Television and studio-based Original Film.

The term "reboot" is thrown around quite often when it comes to reviving classic properties for new generations, with this word sometimes being used to describe a remake of an original story while other times it is meant to convey a contemporary take on the material to renew interest in the concept, with David Gordon Green confirming that his The Exorcist reboot will serve as a sequel to the original film. Given that producer Jason Blum previously revealed that the upcoming film would resemble Green's 2018 Halloween, which was also a direct sequel to the original entry, this latest update merely serves as more confirmation of the direction the project is headed in.

David Gordon Green Confirms His Exorcist Film is a Sequel

David Gordon Green in on board for a new Exorcist film, and he has confirmed that it is a sequel. It was suggested back in June by Jason Blum that the film, which Blumhouse is producing and Green wrote and will direct, would be “like David’s Halloween sequel.” That led many to speculate that the film will be a sequel which ignores the previous sequels. Green said in an interview with Total Film that while it is a sequel, it won’t pretend that The Exorcist II or the third film didn’t happen.
