A Moon Might Have Been Found Orbiting an Exoplanet

In the past three decades, the field of extrasolar planet studies has advanced by leaps and bounds. To date, 4,903 extrasolar planets have been confirmed in 3,677 planetary systems, with another 8,414 candidates awaiting confirmation. The diverse nature of these planets, ranging from Super-Jupiters and Super-Earths to Mini-Neptunes and Water Worlds, has raised many questions about the nature of planet formation and evolution. Inmarsat’s I-6 F1 satellite begins electrical orbit raising process ahead of 2022 testing

Inmarsat announced that its I-6 F1 commercial communications satellite has begun its Electric Orbit Raising (EOR) process to reach geostationary orbit, 36,000km above the Earth. Built for Inmarsat by Airbus Defence and Space, it was launched by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) from the JAXA Tanegashima Space Center in Japan in December. In the hours following its launch, initial acquisition of telemetry from the satellite was received, followed by two further milestones completed on 24 December: apogee thruster firing and solar array deployment – during which the solar arrays’ ‘wingspan’ exceeds that of a Boeing 767. Several days later, as the Inmarsat team worked throughout the Christmas and New Year break, the 9-metre wide L-band reflector was deployed.
