Berkeley’s Famous California Theatre Has Permanently Closed After 107 Years

‘The Cal’ is a Bay Area icon that’s been screening films for generations of Berkeleyans since 1913. Bay Area residents are lamenting the closure of Berkeley’s historic California Theatre, which has screened countless movies to generations of locals since 1913. The famous theater, previously run by the Landmark Theatres chain, has been shuttered since the beginning of the pandemic. Company spokeswoman Margot Gerber confirmed to Berkeleyside that Landmark Theatres will vacate the building because the landlord does not wish to renew its lease.

In a statement from her husband Arturo said, “Yali would want me to let you know that after 14 months of giving a hell of a fight against pancreatic cancer, even though her spirit was into it, her body couldn’t take it any longer. She spread her angel wings last night, October 22nd, 2021 for the first time. I apologize if we haven’t been able to stay in touch recently. I’m her lucky husband. We shared our lives for 23 years. Full of Hell, Liturgy, Ulver on Roadburn 2022 lineup

Roadburn, which takes place in Tilburg, Netherlands on April 21-24, has announced the first batch of bands on its 2022 lineup. Milena Thomas and Thomas Sciarone of the Dutch band GGGOLDDD are two of next year’s curators, and will be also performing a piece with their band called This Shame Should Not Be Mine. Full of Hell is an artist in residence in 2022, and will be performing four times during the festival, including their new album Garden of Burning Apparitions in full, as well as a collaborative set with Nothing called Full of Nothing. Additionally, Alcest will be performing their 2010 album Écailles de lune in its entirety, and Liturgy will be performing both their 2019 album H.A.Q.Q. and staging their 2020 album Origin of the Alimonies as an opera.
