Twins’ shocking trade stance on batting champ Luis Arraez

The Minnesota Twins are reportedly open to trading 2022 AL batting champion Luis Arraez, per The Athletic. However, Minnesota would only pull the tigger on an Arraez deal if it led to a return of “top-tier starting pitching.” The Twins have a capable offense. Land This Cheap 4.2% Yielder Even Lower Than Director Johnson Did

There's an old saying on Wall Street about insider buying: there are many possible reasons to sell a stock, but only one reason to buy. Back on December 2, Essex Property Trust Inc's Director, Amal M. Johnson, invested $218,440.00 into 1,000 shares of ESS, for a cost per share of $218.44. Bargain hunters tend to pay particular attention to insider buys like this one, because presumably the only reason an insider would take their hard-earned cash and use it to buy stock of their company in the open market, is that they expect to make money. In trading on Wednesday, bargain hunters could buy shares of Essex Property Trust Inc (Symbol: ESS) and achieve a cost basis 3.6% cheaper than Johnson, with shares changing hands as low as $210.50 per share. Essex Property Trust Inc shares are currently trading up about 0.9% on the day. The chart below shows the one year performance of ESS shares, versus its 200 day moving average:

Great News: Cubs Re-Signing Lefty Prospect Brailyn Marquez to a Minor League Deal

When the Cubs non-tendered lefty pitching prospect Brailyn Marquez last month to open up a 40-man spot, it was a sad but understandable moment. Having more or less not pitched in nearly three years due to the pandemic, multiple bad bouts of COVID, and then a shoulder surgery, there was no way the Cubs could reasonably count on Marquez contributing in 2023 (he hasn’t even pitched at Double-A yet). Given all that, holding a roster spot for him at a time of crowding just didn’t make sense.

Signal Watch: In Thin Data Week, Markets Move Lower Ahead of Next Week's Fed Meeting

(Monday Market Open) Stocks sagged early Monday to kick off a week where fresh catalysts might be tough to find. Open Market Musings

I don’t bring this up very often, but before I wrote here, I had a job trading interest rates. I won’t bore you with the technical details, but I’ve been drawing on that experience a lot recently in thinking about how teams operate when signing free agents, so I thought I’d lay out my recent thoughts here. None of this is quite fully formed yet, but I think I’m on the way there, and I’d love to hear some feedback and see if I can better formulate my point as a result.
