His Olympics in the balance, a steeplechaser remembered: ‘We have to take care of others.’

American steeplechase runner Benard Keter entered his first Olympics with a modest aim. When he stood on the starting line of his 3,000-meter steeplechase heat, early on the first morning of track and field at the Tokyo Games, he wanted to make Monday night’s final. It would require him either placing in the top three of his race or finishing with one of the six fastest times outside of those automatic qualifiers.
