Suspect Charged With Murder In Gruesome Oakland Slaying

OAKLAND (CBS SF) — A 58-year-old suspect has been charged with murder in the gruesome March slaying of William Vann, who died after being set on fire, authorities said. Oakland police said Andre Weston had been arrested and was being held on homicide charges. “The investigation revealed that there was an altercation between the victim, Vann, and the suspect, Weston, at which time Weston doused Vann with an accelerant, and then lit him on fire, ultimately causing his death,” said Oakland Police Homicide Investigator Robert Hardy. “This horrific death was senseless and the person responsible is being held accountable.” Investigators said the incident took place at 8:07 p.m. on March 3rd in the 500 block of Douglas Ave. When Officers arrived on scene, they located the 58-year-old Vann who was severely burned, beaten and stabbed before being set on fire. Vann was transported to the Saint Frances Burn Unit located in San Francisco and listed in critical condition. After five days of intensive care, Vann succumbed to his injuries.

UPDATE: Lanes Reopen After Jumper From Overpass Shuts Down I-580 in Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) — A man who jumped from an overpass shut down all lanes of I-580 in both directions near High Street in Oakland Monday evening  for over an hour, according to authorities. At around 5:08 p.m., CHP issued a severe traffic alert due to the police department activity blocking all eastbound and westbound lanes of I-580 west of State Highway 13 in Oakland. #Oakland #I580 both directions blocked at #HighStreet for police activity.#KCBSTraffic photo credit: CalTrans pic.twitter.com/fgL2hj308V — KCBS Radio – The Traffic Leader (@KCBSAMFMTraffic) August 3, 2021 Oakland police later confirmed that a male subject who was threatening to jump from an overpass had shut down the freeway. The subject ended up jumping and was injured, authorities said. The subject was then taken to an area hospital for treatment. At around 6:19 p.m., CHP reported that the right lane remained blocked, but all other lanes were open. UPDATE: Police Department Activity on Westbound I-580 West of CA-13 S in Oakland. Three people shot in Oakland early Sunday

OAKLAND — Three people were shot in different areas of the city early Sunday, two in the Uptown District and the other in East Oakland, authorities said. The Uptown District shooting happened about 2:06 a.m. in the 1700 block of Telegraph Avenue and left a 20-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man with gunshot wounds to their upper torsos, authorities said. Their conditions were not immediately available.

(OAKLAND, CA) The price of diesel varies by as much as $0.90 in the greater Oakland area, according to a recent price survey. The survey, which looked at prices across the Oakland area on Tuesday, found that Exxon at 4280 Foothill Blvdhad the cheapest advertised diesel, at just $3.99 per gallon. By comparison, the most expensive station in the area was Shell at 690 Market St, which listed a per-gallon price of $4.89.

Lake Wenatchee sockeye to open

A much-anticipated fishing season for sockeye salmon at Lake Wenatchee will open this week. The Department of Fish and Wildlife announced that anglers will be able to go after sockeye in Lake Wenatchee just after sunrise Wednesday morning. The daily limit will be two sockeye with a minimum size of 12-inches.
