Far Hills: The Mean Queen, Snap Decision Prepared For Rematch In American Grand National

After last year's cancellation due to Covid-19, the Far Hills Race Meeting in New Jersey will celebrate its centennial on Saturday with a six-race, all-stakes hurdle card showcasing the best of American steeplechase racing — including the highly anticipated rematch between The Mean Queen and Snap Decision in the main event, the American Grand National. The meet, with a first-race post time of 1:20 p.m., offers a total of $405,000 in purses, making it the richest on the National Steeplechase Association 2021 calendar.

Brown Seeks Fifth Sands Point Win

Chad Brown has two good chances to score his third straight win, and fifth overall, in Belmont's GII Sands Point S. Saturday. Higher Truth (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) broke her maiden and won a N1X allowance going 10 furlongs over this course in the spring and was third to the ill-fated Santa Barbara (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) in this venue's July 10 GI Belmont Oaks Invitational S., which was also run at 1 1/4 miles. A close second in the GII Saratoga Oaks Invitational S. Aug. 8, the bay led throughout the early stages of the Jockey Club Oaks Invitational S. here Sept. 18, but was run down late, finishing a half-length second.

You have been hearing this for months, but it’s truer now than ever: Fixed-odds wagering is coming soon. Like probably in the next few weeks. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill into law in August to allow fixed-odds wagering. The bill instructed the state’s Department of Gaming Enforcement to create regulations, and it gave the attorney general’s office 90 days to approve them. The 90-day period ends Nov. 3.

Report: Vitali's NYRA hearing set for March

The New York Racing Association has set a hearing date of March 22 for trainer Marcus Vitali, the Daily Racing Form reported Thursday. Last month, NYRA issued a notice of hearing and statement of charges to Vitali and Bob Baffert, contending that they "have engaged in conduct that is detrimental to the best interests of the sport of Thoroughbred racing or potentially injurious to the health or safety of horses or riders."
