NBA Rookie Rankings: Rockets' Jalen Green catching fire; Bones Hyland's 3-point shooting crucial for Nuggets

One of the best parts of the end of the NBA regular season -- or maybe worst depending on your preference -- is we get to see tanking teams empty the bench and play a lot of guys we previously haven't seen. The Portland Trail Blazers have been doing it for a couple weeks. The same goes for the Indiana Pacers, and the Oklahoma City Thunder have what feels like an entire roster of young guys who they essentially just rotate out every couple nights.

Final Score: Spurs defeat Denver Nuggets - 116-97

The San Antonio Spurs - who have won the last 6 out of 7 games- faced the Denver Nuggets in a road game hoping to move the magic number from 2 to 1. The Nuggets were a huge point favorite (+7), and the Spurs had a huge piece of the puzzle out, missing Dejounte Murray due to an upper respiratory illness. The Nuggets have won the last 5 out of 7 games, and with Jokic’ consistent outstanding performances lately, this was a game that easily could have went in the Nuggets favor. However, despite being without Murray, the Spurs pulled off an incredible performance against Jokic (despite putting up 41 points) and the rest of the Nuggets squad. The Spurs pulled off an impressive win this evening, playing well on both sides of the floor, beating the Nuggets 116-97. The Spurs now have 5 road wins in a row, and are 1 game away from clinching the 10th spot.

Recap: Denver Nuggets fall to the San Antonio Spurs

The Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs started their game with slow offense by both sides. Near the middle of the first quarter, the Spurs started to go on a run, and they were taking advantage of some miscues by the Nuggets on offense and putting up points in a hurry. As the quarter was winding down, Denver began to close the gap, and they were able to battle back with Nikola Jokic leading the charge, as he had 17 of the team’s 30 points in the first quarter. They trailed 32-30 heading into the second period.

Nikola Jokic’s 37-point eruption saves Nuggets from collapse; Denver takes over No. 5 seed

INDIANAPOLIS – Nikola Jokic saved the Nuggets from sheer embarrassment and what would’ve been the ugliest loss of the season. Denver blew what was once a 31-point lead before Jokic lifted them up, again. The Nuggets survived, 125-118, on Wednesday night against the Pacers, though the turnovers — including 14 in the second half — were maddening and nearly gave the game away.

The Sixth Man: Denver Nuggets reality check

With nine games remaining, the Denver Nuggets have some of the toughest tests remaining as they battle for playoff seeding.
