oprainfall Week End Review 1/16/22 – 1/22/22

Welcome to first edition of oprainfall Week End Review. We have been without a weekly recap around here for quite a few years, and I’ve decided to change that starting now. Diego will be helping with these, so you can expect to see a piece from one or both of us on every Sunday. We will cover all of the news, reviews, and opinion pieces that have been posted on the site that week, and maybe plug some upcoming content as well. Now without further ado let’s dive into this.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox Gets Steam-Exclusive Co-Op Mode

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is an amazing action RPG—but I think that it could be even fun if it let you play co-op. Well, fortunately, it seems as though Nihon Falcom and NIS America were thinking the same thing, as that co-op dream is now a reality! …At least for Steam users, anyway. To get a closer look at this so-called “exclusive experimental feature,” you can check out the official trailer down below.

Ys IX adds local co-op to its PC version

Getting to play an RPG in co-op with a friend is a cool feature. Where RPGs are usually more well-known for their single-player appeal, games like Divinity: Original Sin and some Tales entries let you share the journey. And with a new PC patch, Ys IX is adding some co-op of its own.

Windjammers 2, Blackwind, RPGolf Legends, Merek’s Market, and Labyrinth Legend hit the Switch

Even as a stupid teenager I could tell Data East’s disc-flinging Windjammers was a special game. The Day-Glo colours, hyperactive pace, and novel premise made it stand out from other arcade games. It has aged gracefully too, so it’s no surprise DotEmu has swept in to create a sequel. We can expect hand-drawn graphics reminiscent of Streets of Rage 4, new moves, and some fresh faces.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox PC Port Gets a Co-op Update

Local Co-op The local co-op feature allows two players to play Ys IX together, at every point in the story where more than one character is available. Note that there is an in-game co-op setting which you need to enable in order for co-op to be available. Once this setting is enabled, the co-op player can drop in and out of the game using the “Start” (or equivalent) button on any non-primary controller, while the “Select” button on the secondary controller toggles the player ID indicators (“P1” and “P2”) on and off.
