EDMONTON, AB - In an era where the talent in hockey is exceptional, we are witnessing a generational one here in Edmonton. At 24 years old, Connor McDavid has seemingly entered his prime, at least on paper. Yet, when you look at his body of work through his first six seasons, the question becomes, "just how much better can he really get?"

Rochester Americans head coach Seth Appert never hesitates to emphasize that the Buffalo Sabres’ rebuilding program will have deep American Hockey League roots. Hired by Buffalo in August 2020, Appert came to Western New York with a clear mandate from Buffalo management – convert NHL draft picks into NHL players. Appert brought a lengthy coaching resume with him to that task, having spent 20 years behind NCAA benches followed by three seasons at the storied United States National Team Development Program.

Craig Barry on Turner Sports’ remarkable month and cross-sports intertwining: “This was something where the planets aligned.”
October has often received a lot of discussion in conversations about the best sports month, and that was particularly true for Turner Sports this year. In addition to their longstanding coverage of MLB (on TBS) and NBA (on TNT) games, they also added NHL coverage this year (on TNT). And that led to some interesting intertwining of those different sports’ coverage, including NBA figure Charles Barkley appearing on the NHL on TNT, NHL figure Wayne Gretzky showing up on NBA on TNT coverage, and MLB figures Pedro Martinez, Curtis Granderson, and Jimmy Rollins also appearing on NBA on TNT coverage. On Sunday, Craig Barry (Turner Sports’ executive vice president and chief content officer) spoke to AA about Turner’s October coverage, and he said it was a remarkable chance for them to show off their coverage across sports.

DETROIT -- There was a decent chance the Detroit Red Wings could run into a buzzsaw on Saturday night. The game played out that way in a convincing road loss in Montreal. With a quick turnaround, Detroit will look to prevent the same result from happening in a uniquely similar set of circumstances.
New York Post
I spoke most recently to Mike Bossy in late June when the Islanders were preparing for Game 7 of the Stanley Cup semifinals at Tampa Bay. Had they won, The Post was going to run a special section for the final. Which meant another conversation with one of my favorite...
Kaliyev was reassigned to AHL Ontario on Tuesday, John Hoven of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio reports. Kaliyev has an assist and 15 shots through five games with the Kings this season. This move could indicate that some of the Kings' injured forwards are getting healthy, otherwise, Kaliyev could be back on the roster before Thursday's game against Winnipeg.
Kupari was sent down to AHL Ontario on Tuesday, John Hoven of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio reports. Kupari has been held without a point while averaging 11:19 of ice time through five games this season. The 21-year-old forward could be back on the roster for Thursday's game against the Jets unless the Kings are expecting reinforcements to come off injured reserve.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are entering the United States for the first time in two seasons as they traveled to Pittsburgh following their 5-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks at home. New teams have been a pleasant change for us as fans, though the Leafs currently haven’t won a game against an American team this year. That’s not a failure for nationalism or anything, just a failure of the Leafs to put 60 minutes together.
Hockey superstar Mark Messier’s new book, No One Wins Alone, blends the Hockey Hall of Famer’s insights into achieving success as a player and a leader with his descriptions of a long NHL career that began when he was just 18 years old. “Our first National Hockey League game was...
