Buffalo Sabres win 2021 NHL draft lottery; Seattle Kraken get second overall pick

The Buffalo Sabres won the 2021 NHL draft lottery on Wednesday, with the expansion Seattle Kraken getting the second overall pick. The Sabres, who finished with an NHL-worst 15-34-7 record, had the best lottery odds at 16.6%. It is the first time the team with the best lottery odds won the first overall pick since 2018, when the Sabres retained the top spot to select defenseman Rasmus Dahlin.

Red Wings stay put, will pick sixth in NHL Entry Draft

Detroit — As usual, the Red Wings had no luck at Wednesday's NHL Draft lottery. The Wings went into the televised event with the sixth-best odds to land the top pick overall — and that’s where they’ll be picking, sixth overall, after draws were complete Wednesday at the NHL Network headquarters.

Blackhawks to select No. 11 overall in first round of 2021 NHL Draft

Chicago did not get a fortunate bounce in the 2021 NHL Draft Lottery, staying put in the No. 11 overall spot for the first round of this year’s draft. The Blackhawks entered the draft lottery with the 11th best odds at the No. 1 overall pick, moving up from No. 12 due to Arizona forfeiting its 2021 first-round pick as part of the punishment for violating the NHL’s combine testing policy last year.

The 2021 NHL Draft Lottery Preview

For the first time since 2017, there isn’t going to be an overwhelming consensus #1 pick in the NHL Draft. While Owen Power is the favorite to go to whoever wins the draft lottery tonight: it is far from a guarantee that he ends up being the first player selected. The top of the 2021 draft looks more and more to be about a preference pick rather than a player who, regardless of position, is the clear talent to be selected.

'A little bit disappointed': Blue Jackets stay put in NHL draft lottery, will pick fifth

The Blue Jackets will pick fifth overall in the 2021 NHL draft, not losing and not gaining a spot from their fifth-best odds to win it. Their drafting fate was determined by two lottery draws Wednesday at the league’s NHL Network studios in Secaucus, New Jersey, and the results were revealed later in the day on NHL Network and NBCSN.

Can This Draft Lottery Be the Last One We Have to Care About for a While? Please?

The NHL Draft Lottery will occur next Wednesday and once again, the Devils will be among the teams with the highest odds to end up winning one of the top picks. As most of the people reading this should be well aware of, the Devils have won the draft lottery in two of the past four seasons, selecting Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes with the first pick in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Winning those first-overall picks represented exciting moments for the franchise and has given the Devils a strong one-two punch town the middle of their lineup for the foreseeable future. I don’t think I’m speaking for just myself, though, when I say that I’m pretty tired of having a lot of interest in the NHL Draft Lottery drawing, though.

Seattle gets lucky and Canucks don't at 2021 NHL draft lottery

They haven’t played a single game in the NHL yet, but the Seattle Kraken have already accomplished something the Vancouver Canucks have never done before. The Canucks didn’t win the 2021 NHL draft lottery, but they didn’t lose either. Vancouver didn’t move down in the order like they have done so many times in the past. Instead, they’ll pick ninth, which is the spot they held heading into the lottery.

Red Wings will have No. 6 pick in 2021 NHL Entry Draft

Coming into the Draft Lottery, Detroit had the sixth-best odds to earn the No. 1 pick in this year's draft at 7.6 percent, and the Wings had a 15.4-percent chance at selecting in the top two. The Red Wings had a 30% chance to pick sixth, and it will be...

The NHL draft lottery will be held Wednesday, and this is what’s at stake for the Sharks: The chance to draft someone who can offer immediate help, or having to wait another year or two for that help. The Sharks, per, have a combined chance of about 13.6 percent...

The Brassmasters: 10 Players I Love in the 2021 NHL Draft

This is my first year writing for DBTB as a staff writer, but I’ve been in this community since 2015. For the past few years I’ve laid out a pretty consistent pattern of posts that I make leading up to the draft including: the final draft rankings (coming the second week of June), bold predictions, 5 players for every Sabres draft slot, and a final mock draft/1st round draft contest.

New Jersey Devils: What’s NHL Draft Lottery Worst-Case Scenario?

The New Jersey Devils are back in the middle of things when it comes to the NHL Draft Lottery. They are looking to win the number-one overall pick for the third time in five years. The Devils have been bad for a while now, and they could really use a defenseman at the top of the draft. There are some good ones, and the consensus top pick seems to be Michigan’s Owen Power.
