Clemson vs. NC State odds, line, spread: College football picks, Week 4 predictions from model on 72-58 run

The ninth-ranked Clemson Tigers are looking to reach their seventh consecutive College Football Playoff, but must overcome a slow start to their season when they take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack in a key ACC matchup on Saturday. The Tigers (2-1) have been far from impressive so far, with a 10-3 loss to Georgia in the season opener and a 14-8 victory over Georgia Tech last week. The Wolfpack (2-1) are looking to open their conference slate and beat the Tigers for the first time since 2011. Clemson is also looking to win the ACC title for the seventh straight year.

Clemson vs. NC State: Live stream, watch online, TV channel, prediction, pick, spread, football game odds

No. 9 Clemson will be on the road Saturday to rekindle its Atlantic Division series against ACC foe NC State. The two teams didn't play in 2020 when the league went to a 15-team, one division format with Notre Dame added to the mix. All of those changes, of course, were a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Week 4, however, a rivalry that spans decades between the regional rivals will be reignited.

Can NC State beat Clemson without a running game?

As I go back and forth and then around and over and through the scenarios that lead to an NC State win over Clemson this week, I mostly have tried to avoid thinking about how little confidence I have in State’s ground game. Because thinking about that is no good for pre-game hype at all.

Clemson’s coming to town to face the Wolfpack. Here’s an early look at the matchup.

N.C. State will open ACC play with the gold standard of the league - the Clemson Tigers. The Wolfpack missed out on playing the Tigers a year ago but will welcome them back to Raleigh after Clemson edged Georgia Tech 14-8. The Pack has been near flawless at home, out scoring their two opponents 90-7 in two games. Neither one of those opponents, though, were nowhere nearly as talented as Clemson.

NC State stuns Clemson in overtime: What we learned about the Wolfpack

Of course it would come down to the N.C. State defense. In overtime, with Clemson facing a 4th and five, trailing by six, the Wolfpack defense, one of the best in the ACC, forced an incomplete pass, upsetting the No. 9 Tigers, 27-21 at Carter-Finley Stadium. D.J. Uiagalele missed Justyn Ross in the back corner of the end zone, setting up a field rush from the State fans, desperate for a big time win. It was the first win over a Top-10 program for Dave Doeren, who was 0-for-10 in his previous attempts. It’s the fourth win over a Clemson team ranked in the Top-10 for the Wolfpack.

NC State football’s linebacker corps exudes ‘Bend, don’t break’ mentality

The season-ending injury to redshirt sophomore linebacker Payton Wilson in the NC State football team’s week two loss to Mississippi State was crushing for a number of reasons. For starters, Wilson is a tackling machine, leading the ACC last year and having the kind of swagger teams crave from a defensive leader. But it’s even more crushing on a personal level. Wilson is no stranger to injuries and adversity, but it especially stings that this is his fourth major injury since coming to the Pack.

The procrastinator’s guide to the 2021 NC State football season

With 20 starters returning, including 10 on defense, N.C. State is supposed to be good this season, right?. This probably isn’t Dave Doeren’s most talented bunch (there were a lot of NFL guys on those 2016 and 17 teams), but this might be his deepest and most experienced team. The Wolfpack’s top four rushers and top three receivers return on offense and the 12 leading tackers from 2020 are all back.
