Giannis-less Bucks cruise to 105-96 win over Hornets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Bobby Portis scored 20 points and the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Charlotte Hornets 105-96 on Saturday night, despite missing star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. “Everybody gives themselves up for the betterment of the team,” Portis said of Milwaukee’s depth. “Everybody sacrifices and works extremely hard on this team. There are no egos.” Antetokounmpo, a two-time MVP, sat out with left knee soreness, one night after scoring 40 points in a home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Jordan Nwora added 17 points and Brook Lopez and Jevon Carter each scored 14 for the Bucks.

St. Bernard’s girls win Cloverdale tournament

It has been an impressive start to the new basketball season for the St. Bernard’s girls, who continued to roll at the Cloverdale tournament on Saturday morning. The Crusaders made it three wins out of three tournament games to go to 3-0 on the season, defeating Windsor 64-48 in the championship game.

SEC Championship game superlatives: Georgia QB Bennett named MVP

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Georgia QB Stetson Bennett got the game MVP even though LSU’s backup quarterback threw for more yards that he did. But Bennett was brutally efficient in turning the game into a runaway while completing 23 of 29 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns. His 204.2 QB rating was the second-highest in championship game history.
