Radiohead’s Kid A Mnesia Digital Exhibit Open Now #MusicMonday

Once upon a time, many years ago, when Adafruit was young, In Rainbows came out. The sky over New York was stark and grey. And as we kitted and shipped and designed and soldered, we listened to one of the all time great grey sky albums. Fitting here, to report on Kid A Mnesia. It’s like “a spooky haunted Guggenheim Museum, the immersive art-y game world looking back on Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac,” free for your PC or Mac. Here’s more from Radiohead:

Watch Radiohead offshoot The Smile rehearse on Instagram

Back in May, Radiohead offshoot The Smile -- Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner, in collaboration with producer Nigel Godrich -- announced their existence by appearing on the Glastonbury livestream festival back in May, playing an eight-song set. The Smile went quiet after that but Stereogum notes they popped up again today via their Instagram stories, streaming rehearsals at four different intervals. If you missed it, Radiohead's devoted fanbase recorded them and put them on YouTube, and you can watch below.

KID A MNESIA is an exploratory first person experience celebrating Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac. Did we mention it’s free? via Radiohead on Twitter. Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke’s twisted anxious artwork and writing made to accompany the music of Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac is uncovered and brought back to life, in a building hidden in a forest made in pencil, stretching the idea of what an exhibition is to breaking point.. or into something else entirely.

Hands On: Kid A Mnesia: Exhibition Is a Truly Haunting Tribute to Everything Radiohead

It’s almost quaint to think that Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac albums were considered such esoteric, difficult listening twenty years ago. With the benefit of hindsight they are simply part of the natural progression in sound from The Bends to the beloved OK Computer, doubling down on that album’s themes of alienation and pressure. With the recent Kid A Mnesia reissue combining both albums into a long player, they’re now officially as inextricable as they already were in the minds of many fans. And with this comes Kid A Mnesia: Exhibition, an exploration of art, music, and mood as produced for and evoked by what are arguably Radiohead’s two most polarising pieces.

Radiohead’s Kid A Mnesia Exhibition Is a Walking Simulator-Lite for Fans of the Band

Radiohead’s Kid A Mnesia Exhibition Is a Walking Simulator-Lite for Fans of the Band. As a longtime Radiohead fan, I have actively gobbled up everything they’ve put to wax, so to speak. So when the latest Kid A Mnesia exhibition was announced during the Sony State of Play earlier this year, it was a bit of a head-scratcher, for sure, but I knew it was going to be interesting.

Whether or not you like their music, there’s always something to be said about Radiohead. And so it is with Kid A Mnesia Exhibition, a self-declared “something” that’s available now on PlayStation 5, PC and Mac. Now as it goes, I do like their music. In fact, I love Kid...

Radiohead is offering gamers a free musical odyssey with ‘Kid A Mnesia’

Far from the rhythm gaming of a Guitar Hero add-on band pack, the party-game antics of Just Dance, or the sci-fi racing of Avicii Invector, Radiohead’s Kid A Mnesia: Exhibition offers an astoundingly visceral, if bleak, exploration of a trailblazing moment in the band’s history. It was originally intended as...

Kid A Mnesia Exhibition review

The strangely titled Kid A Mnesia Exhibition is an interactive art installation, furnished with the writing, recordings, and highly pressurised gloom of two albums, Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001), from the English rock band Radiohead. And we should be thankful. Not only because it is free, on PlayStation 5 and PC, but because this marks the third attempt at building such an exhibition. The band’s lead singer, Thom Yorke, first wanted a physical space—welded from shipping containers and resembling a “brutalist spacecraft” and an “ice pick”—but it wouldn’t fit in the Victoria & Albert Museum. Next, Westminster council had a problem with his plan to make it “look as if it had crashed into the side of the Royal Albert Hall.” Now it has found a good home, especially on the PS5, which already looks as if a brutalist spacecraft had crashed onto your coffee table.
