California High School wrestling returned for its second ever season this month, and this year's squad is even more driven following the Pintos' first stab at the sport. Pintos wrestling is led by head coach Travis Payne. Payne is not only the head coach for California High School wrestling but is also an assistant coach for Pintos football and the boys physical education and health teacher at California Middle School. Payne brings a unique blend of knowledge and toughness to California wrestling the Pintos need to lead them through their season.

MSHSAA releases winter district assignments

It was like an early Christmas for area high schools. MSHSAA announced its winter class and district assignments Friday morning for basketball, wrestling and girls swimming. Emotions were mixed around the area following the release. Class 5 consists of eight districts, meaning districts have at least eight teams in them.

Dr. Gregory Lynn Temple, 68, West Plains, passed away on November 8, 2021, in the arms of his wife and surrounded by his children after a long-fought battle against brain cancer. Dr. Temple was born on June 8, 1953, in Springfield Missouri, the son of Lynn Leon and Neva Lois Temple. He moved to West Plains in 1979 where he joined the dental practice of Dr. Harry B. Kelly.
