Sarasota Brewery Hosts Running Club With Ice-Cold Rewards

Sarasota's Big Top Brewing Company is providing some much-needed motivation for your next running session. Every Monday night, the brewery hosts a run club, gathering runners and beer lovers in one place. Meet up for check-in at 6 p.m. and start running at 6:30. The three-mile run will start at the brewery and go to and through the Celery Fields and back.

Whittier students hit the track running

It wasn’t the Run for the Roses, but Whittier Elementary School students ran their hearts out Friday in the Mile Run Bluegrass Boogie sponsored by the Winfield Recreation Center at Cherry Street Park. Fastest male: Le’gend Cyrus-Riley, 6:30. Fastest female: LaKaiya Hawkins, 7:36. Both top runners are in fifth grade.

RUNNERS take off from Ironwood's Depot Park to start the Bridges and Bluffs half marathon and two-mile run on Saturday morning. Dustin Filippini, who organized the event said it was nice to return to an in-person race. The annual race was held virtually last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The race attracted runners of all ages. Runners also had to option to participate in the half marathon or two-mile race virtually. Those who wanted to support the race without participating were able to sign up for the Couch Potato Race and make a donation.

My husband, my running buddy

It was my husband who first started me running, way back in 1994. We started running just before my 21st birthday. He was working and felt he was losing fitness and gaining weight, so wanted to do some exercise – and he wanted me to join him. I remember how hard those first few runs were. We ran a little lap around the River Trent in Nottingham, where we lived. I had to walk twice on our first run, and I’d be surprised if it was even a mile long.
