David Dowling

Mr. Daniel David Dowling, age 54, of Hoboken, passed away Sunday evening (9/12/21) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following a short illness. Born March 14, 1967 in Brunswick, he was a son of the late Daniel Ellis Dowling, Jr. and Marlene Todd Dowling. He lived most of his life in Pierce County and was a 1985 graduate of Pierce County High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Records Technician and played on the Fort Gordon Post Softball Team.

Donnie William Joyce

Mr. Donnie William Joyce, age 62, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday evening (9/5/21) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following a short illness. Born September 5, 1959 in Blackshear, he was a son of the late Shear William Joyce and Shirley Bennett Outlaw. He was a lifelong resident of Pierce County and had worked as a supervisor for Scapa, Inc in Waycross, worked with the United States Postal Service in Ware County, and as a security guard with Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. He was a member of Hacklebarney Baptist Church.

Mrs. Donna Maria Ostrom Handel, age 77, of Blackshear, passed away early Saturday morning (9/4/21) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following an extended illness. Born November 22, 1943 in New Haven, Connecticut, she was a daughter of the late John Kenneth and Marie Ann Sandillo Ostrom. She was raised in Connecticut before moving to Ormond Beach, Florida where she lived for 36 years. She retired as a retail clerk for Walmart and moved to Pierce County in 2018. She was of the Catholic faith.

Mrs. Tonya Lynn King Williams, age 49, of Hoboken, passed away Tuesday (8/24/21) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following an extended illness. Born January 11, 1972 in Blackshear, she was a daughter of Susan Smith King and the late William Barnwell “Buddy” King. She grew up in Pierce County and had lived in Brantley County for the past 19 years. She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.

Rev. Marvin Oliver Holladay

Rev. Marvin Oliver Holladay, age 83, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday morning (8/26/21) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following an extended illness. Born August 29, 1937 in DeLand, Florida, he was the youngest son of John Benjamin Holladay Sr. and Olivia Amanda Rush Holladay. He graduated from DeLand High School in 1955. He was a veteran, having served in the US Army where he served with the Green Beret. He attended Presidio of Monterey in Monterey, California where he studied language. In his First tour, he served as a chaplain’s assistant in Iceland. He was also in the 7th Special Forces while he trained to be a paratrooper.

Thomas Jackson Hickox

Mr. Thomas Jackson Hickox, age 88, of Patterson, passed away Friday morning (8/20/21) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following a short illness. Born August 10, 1933 in Hoboken, he was a son of the late Joseph Washington and Viola Walker Hickox. He grew up in Brantley County and Pierce County and moved to the Savannah area in the early 1950’s. He worked several years for Union Camp Corporation in Savannah before becoming the owner of his own barbershop. Following years of operating his own business, he accepted a job and retired as a technician for Pepsi. He returned to Pierce County in 1997 and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Patterson.
