Out Today by The Orchard: ITZY, Third Eye Blind, Solemn Brigham

ITZY – Crazy In Love (JYP) The 5-member K-Pop girl group ITZY presents their newest album, Crazy in Love, released via JYP Entertainment. ITZY first rose to fame in 2019 with “Dalla Dalla,” their iconic debut single that ranked #3 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart and broke the record for most viewed K-pop debut music video in history. ITZY has continued to make waves in the industry, with their past three projects––IT’z ICY, IT’z ME, and Not Shy––all dominating the Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart. ITZY’s newly released 16-track album, Crazy In Love, includes their dance-pop single “Loco,” which PinkVilla described as a song that “expresses the strong attraction that was first felt in the style of Generation Z.” The K-Pop group also revealed a music video teaser for “SWIPE,” the album’s second track that features 808 drum beats and a retro clarinet. The video makes reference to the social media platform TikTok, while the song sends a warning message to people who cross the line. ITZY’s new album is expected to surpass all high expectations, with NME praising it as their “most cohesive project in terms of sound.”

Hip-Hop Matters: The Best Hip-Hop Albums of August 2021

August was an interesting month in hip-hop. Perhaps in relation to the current emotional tenor of Western society, a number of the key albums released in the genre this month express feelings of deep melancholy and vulnerability. Kanye West’s overwrought Donda is the obvious example. However, Ka’s A Martyr’s Reward is also similarly conflicted and brittle, as is GRIP’s self-reflective and anxious I Died For This?

Solemn Brigham finds his way out of the "Vantablack"

After pairing up with producer L'Orange for an exciting run of music releases, Solemn Brigham is back on his solo mission as he drops a new single "Vantablack." This time he teams up with producer Scud One who laces him with the most effective backdrop ripe with solemn guitar riffs, airy vocal samples, and sparse drum grooves to boot. Armed with his distinct vocal tone that is part gruff and soft, Brigham injects a bit of melody and vivid poetry into his repertoire as he takes us deep into the alleyways where souls hardly ever get saved. As the title suggests, the topic dives into the darkest part in the hood where people often ignore to the detriment of the residents who live there and have to go through hurdles and traps with little to no help in sight. I will confess, I had to look up the meaning of the song title to fully get the metaphor behind Brigham's lyrics and for lack of a better word, his world is pitch black.
