Dog shot in Stafford after charging deputies trying to assist a fallen man

A 32-year-old man and his dog both ended up dead following a medical emergency Saturday morning in the Widewater area of Stafford County. Stafford Sheriff’s Maj. Shawn Kimmitz said deputies went to Sandy Lane about 9:21 a.m. in response to a report that a man was unresponsive in a backyard. Deputies were unable to get close to the fallen man because of an aggressive dog that was apparently trying to protect its owner.

Inmate dies from apparent medical emergency at Linn County Jail

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A man in custody at the Linn County Correctional Center died on Friday night after reporting chest pains, according to officials. At around 8:49 p.m., staff at the jail were informed by other inmates that a man in custody needed medical attention. Multiple members of the staff went to the cellblock where the man was, where he told them that he was suffering chest pains and overall not feeling well. The man soon became unresponsive, with staff using CPR and a portable defibrillator to attempt to resuscitate him.

2 Vacaville Homes Damaged In Fire; 2 Firefighters Taken To Hospital

VACAVILLE (CBS13) — Two firefighters had to be taken to the hospital during the battle against a fire that damaged two houses in Vacaville late Friday morning. Scene of the fire. (Credit: Vacaville Fire Department) The scene was along 1900 block of Marshall Road. Crews arrived a little after 11 a.m. and found a heavy fire coming from the garage of one home. Flames were also starting to spread to the home next door, firefighters say. Crews went to work quickly and were able to get the flames under control within an hour, but not before one home was heavily damaged. The second home involved also sustained moderate damage, officials say. One firefighter suffered a medical emergency during the battle and had to be taken to the hospital, the department says. A second firefighter also suffered a minor eye injury and had to be transported as well. Exactly what started the fire is still under investigation.

DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac Burger King reopened following a brief closure Friday due to a car crashing into its drive-thru. At approximately 3:10 p.m. Friday, Dowagiac police and fire departments were dispatched to the Burger King restaurant at 903 Spruce St. in Dowagiac. Units were advised that a vehicle had struck the building there.
