Inmates report unsafe conditions, lack of COVID-19 measures in Michigan’s Kinross Correctional Facility

Since April 2020, 146 people incarcerated in Michigan correctional facilities have passed away due to COVID-19 and related complications, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections. These people were housed in various facilities across Michigan, with nine of the people who passed away in 2020 and 2021 being from Kinross Correctional Facility in Michigan’s upper peninsula.

County veteran services may move to new site

CORUNNA — The Shiawassee County Veterans Affairs Committee is exploring the possibility of relocating the county’s veterans services to the Griffin Home site. Committee members will tour the county-owned building, 1042 N. Shiawassee St., at 3 p.m. Dec. 15. The building formerly housed the county’s work-release program but is now mostly vacant, with the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) occupying a small amount of office space in the building, county officials said.

Suspect pleads guilty in Lakeland drug case so he can get parole

Lakeland Correction staff found 30 Suboxone drug strips in a coffee can in the locker of Adonis Palmore, 26, in August 2019.  After over a year of legal wrangling, he pleaded guilty to the attempt to use the controlled substance. Corrections officer attacked by inmate at Branch prison

MARQUETTE –A female corrections officer sustained injuries in an assault at the Marquette Branch Prison on Nov.22. Shortly after 8 p.m., three officers were on the gallery of the maximum security unit and were letting prisoners out for showers when one of the inmates began to attack the officer in the head using a weapon, according to a Michigan Department of Corrections press release.
