For Maryland, another opportunity squandered brings questions about what’s actually possible

It wasn’t just the specifics of the Maryland football team’s 51-14 drubbing at the hands of fifth-ranked Iowa Friday night. It’s the feeling that it always plays out this way. The Terrapins waddle to the precipice of something special. They give the students a reason to show up to Maryland Stadium en masse, dressed all in black, unified. And then they crater.

Maryland Debuts One Of The Largest Videoboards In America

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland Athletics debuted two new videoboards at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium this fall, including one of the largest in America which was unveiled for Friday's football game against #5 Iowa. The 120-foot-by-54-foot (3,600-by-1,620 pixels) display in the West end zone (adjacent to the Stadium Drive garage) is 6,532 square feet, making it the ninth-largest collegiate videoboard in the country and largest in the Big Ten Conference. The display will be the first in college athletics to operate end-to-end in 1080p HDR (High Dynamic Range) broadcast quality. This board replaces one that measured 49-foot by 30-foot, making the new LED display area nearly six times larger than the previous board, which was more than 15 years old.

Former Terps are returning to College Park as Michael Locksley rebuilds Maryland football

When Shawne Merriman played at Maryland, he felt tied to all of the players who came before him. They provided a model for success and he wanted to be remembered alongside them. When Merriman, a standout linebacker, trained in the weight room with tight end Vernon Davis, they competed with each other while hoping to carve out their spots in Terrapins lore.

Maryland football shows progress in opening win over West Virginia

Michael Locksley insisted this season opener would serve as a barometer of sorts. These few hours would tell him and the Maryland fan base what they could expect from the football program in his third year at the helm. Locksley knew West Virginia would pose a serious start-of-the-season test, but late in the game, with the score still tight, the reading of that barometer was clear: There’s hope this season will be better than the others in recent years.

Maryland leaves no doubt with resounding win over Howard

Two years ago, Maryland christened the Michael Locksley era with a near-historic rout of Howard in his first game as Maryland’s permanent head coach. While the Terrapins didn’t win by quite as big a margin at Maryland Stadium on Saturday, they were close in a resounding 62-0 victory against the Bison.

Maryland Football: Quietly, one Terps unit playing at an elite level

Maryland football’s offense has thrived through four games, averaging 37.3 points per game and 519.2 yards per contest. The Terps are the third highest-scoring team in the Big Ten and rank 13th nationally in total yards per game. One of the main catalysts for that offensive success is the new-look offensive line, providing clean pockets for Taulia Tagovailoa and open rushing lanes for the running backs.
