College Basketball Rankings March 1: Purdue Returns to Top 25

It is officially March and Purdue finds itself both solidly in the NCAA Tournament and back in the top 25 after a two week absence. By pretty much every expectation Purdue has overachieved, and there is even the taste of “This team could really be 19-5 right now” because of the nature of the losses at Miami, Maryland, and Minnesota. Still, we’re in the top 25 on March 1, which any fan would have absolutely taken back on November 1.

March in like a lamb, and it stays that way for a while!

You know the old saying about March: in like a lamb, out like a lion (or vice versa). Sunday night’s rain and storms led the way for a quiet start to the month of March; colder air blowing in dropped the temperature nearly thirty degrees in twenty-four hours: from 75ºF at 3:45 PM Sunday to 46ºF at 3:45 PM Monday.

In like a lamb, March 2021 opens cooler with extended sunny stretch coming

NEW MONTH – NEW SEASON?. We opened the new month with a seasonal chill, but notably colder after Sunday’s 61-degree high. The final weekend of February was the warmest for a weekend since mid-November and we now close the book on winter, sort-of. That was a rather impressive February, ending up in the record books as the coldest and snowiest in six years. The average temperature of 25.9° places February 2021 as the 25th coldest. Snowfall of 11.8″, inched us up to the 20th snowiest February on record.

The first Bracketology update of March, plus Colin Morikawa makes history with WGC victory

In the words of my colleague Jon Rothstein ..."this is March." Hope you got your "rabbit rabbit" in before opening this newsletter because February is officially behind us. And even though seeing March on the calendar gives me some PTSD thanks to what happened this time last year, it seems like we are (hopefully) in store for a better go this time around. I just got a Nintendo Switch over the weekend so March is shaping up to be pretty cool, if you ask me.
