Downtown Austin community food forest expansion to move forward with city backing

Planning for a 3-acre expansion to downtown Austin’s Festival Beach Food Forest will continue with city participation through this summer and fall. City Council on July 29 passed a resolution sponsored by District 3 Council Member Pio Renteria directing City Manager Spencer Cronk to implement the food forest’s expansion plan and update council by Nov. 1. The food forest concept was established through the 2014 passage of the Holly Shores Master Plan, and in the years since the urban community garden has grown to house a variety of plants providing fruits, vegetables and herbs for local residents and organizations.

ACUSHNET – The annual Apple-Peach Festival will not run for a second year in a row due to health and safety concerns amid COVID-19. For the past 40 years, since 1979, local farmers have gathered to sell apples (and later peaches) in Acushnet. The two-day event attracts up to 4,000 people honoring these juicy fruits. The festival also features local food vendors, live music, entertainment, police and fire department demonstrations, art & crafts tables and a parade.
