World Cup 2022 briefing: what history tells us about Argentina v Mexico

Argentina and Mexico go back a long way. All the way to the very first World Cup. They met in the 1930 group stage and it was quite the match. Three penalties were awarded, two of them scored by Mexico, one missed by Argentina, yet amazingly that wasn’t the main story. Step forward Guillermo Stábile, who notched a hat-trick for La Albiceleste on debut. Argentina won 6-3 and Stábile kept rattling them in all the way to the final, in which he put his side 2-1 up before Uruguay stormed back to win.

The U.S. men’s national team stepped it up against England, securing a 0-0 draw in which they had the better of the game’s few chances. The USMNT may have been slightly disappointed with one point against Wales, after dominating in the first half and leading until the final stages, but it’s hard to have too many serious complaints after they held the Three Lions to virtually no serious chances. We’ll have deeper analysis in the future, but during the World Cup we’ll be giving a quick breakdown of each USMNT player’s performance. Our scale: 1: Abysmal. ″ Ricardo Souza did not respect the family name. Neither father nor son

Statements by Sergio Conceicao, coach of FC Porto, after the 2-2 draw with Mafra, in the first round of the League Cup group stage. Criticism of Mafra coach Ricardo Souza and refereeing: “It’s Portuguese football. I was sent off in Mafra for kicking the ball out of bounds. Today the opposing coach didn’t respect the family name. He didn’t honor father and son. He collided with Wendell and nothing happened. Constant waste of time from the start of the game… only the goalkeeper was yellowed in the second half .. I’d rather not give a yellow.. But that’s not why we lose.. We can’t offer the opponent 45 minutes. The referee should give 12, 14, 16 minutes. We had conditions to change the result, but that was not the case.
