Federal trial set for McAlester man

A trial against a McAlester man federally indicted for assaulting law enforcement officers with his vehicle during a Tulsa-area pursuit is scheduled to begin in August. Court records show Jeffrey Brent Thomas, 43, was indicted in May in the Northern District of Oklahoma with two counts of aggravated assault of a federal officer with a deadly and dangerous weapon and one count of eluding a police officer in Indian Country.

Law Enforcement Officers Honor Kirby

Dozens of law enforcement vehicles and a few hundred officers converged on Hazlehurst last Wednesday to show their respects for one of their fallen. Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Department Investigator Duane Kirby was laid to rest following long battle with cancer. As the funeral procession, led by the flashing blue lights of dozens of law enforcement vehicles followed by vehicles transporting family, friends and co-workers, made its way to Riverside Cemetery in Lumber City, traffic stretched as far as the eye could see. U.S. flags on all county properties were lowered to half mast Wednesday in remembrance of Kirby.

Governor meets with law enforcement to increase officer training, improve information sharing

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - The governor is committing to improving policing in Tennessee amid a national surge in violent crime. Gov. Bill Lee met with the Law Enforcement Training Advisory Council on Thursday. The purpose of the council is to advise on developments in policing needs and training best practices. Dyer sworn in as new wildlife law enforcement officer

Jacob Brent Dyer of Purlear was one of 18 new state wildlife law enforcement officers sworn in Tuesday at a graduation ceremony in Pinehurst. Dyer is a graduate of West Wilkes High School.
