Federer Arrives In Boston For Laver Cup

Roger Federer has arrived in Boston at the Laver Cup to offer his support to Team Europe as they aim to record a fourth-consecutive victory against Team World. The 40-year-old competed in the first three editions of the competition, but will watch from the sidelines at the TD Garden as he continues to recover from injury after undergoing knee surgery last month.

Federer-Backed Laver Cup Brings in Sponsors Despite Missing Stars on Court

The Laver Cup, Roger Federer’s latest contribution to tennis, is enjoying much of the same sponsorship success as the man who founded it. Named after the Australian tennis legend Rod Laver, the only tennis player to win the calendar-year Grand Slam twice, the tournament was created by Federer and his agent Tony Godsick, the president and CEO of TEAM8, back in 2017. This Davis Cup-meets-Ryder Cup event has quickly gained both fan and brand interest. The fourth edition of the event, which kicks off Friday in Boston’s TD Garden, will be without top players Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic for the...

Team World seeks to Win on Day 2 of Laver Cup Tennis 2021

No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas | Team Europe vs. No. 95 Nick Kyrgios | Team World. The points are doubled up on Day 2 at the 2021 Laver Cup, putting Aussie Nick Kyrgios in a position to level the proceedings with a win over Greek superstar Stefanos Tsitsipas. Having fallen to No. 95 in the ATP rankings, Kyrgios will come in as the underdog against Tsitsipas, who earlier this year reached his first major final at Roland Garros (l. to Novak Djokovic, 6-7(6) 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-4). But the 26-year-old will carry some confidence into the match having defeated Tsitsipas in their two previous encounters, including a tight 7-6(7) 6-7(3) 7-6(5) decision in January at the ATP Cup in Melbourne. Plus, the longtime Boston Celtics devotee will be all but playing on home turf at TD Garden. “I think everyone knows how special it is to be in such a great arena with so much history and so much sporting greatness to come out of this building, to be a part of it,” said Kyrgios.

Laver Cup Is Bringing Unique Brand Of Tennis To Boston, And Lack Of Big 3 Isn’t Dampening Excitement

The fourth edition of the Laver Cup tennis event will have the same look as the previous three but with the potential to feel completely different. The three-day Europe vs. World team tennis competition launched in 2017 thanks to Roger Federer, Tony Godsick and their TEAM8 agency. As the event gallivants around the world to different host cities, it brings the same unique flavor of fan-friendly styling to an arena of choice, also attracting 12 of the biggest names in men's tennis along the way. But the 2021 event, being held in Boston after a 2020 postponement because of the pandemic, represents the first of the four Laver Cup iterations to not feature Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic.
