But according to some who have actually camped in this particular location, they swear the Michigan lake that has the clearest water is Beaver Lake....the one in the U.P.'s Alger County, NOT the one in Alpena County.

Volunteers find high road salt levels in Michigan waterways

Volunteers in Gaithersburg, Maryland, are fighting road salt pollution with catchy sayings painted on snowplow blades. The group is in the hometown of the Izaak Walton League, a national environmental conservancy that created a nationwide program to monitor chloride levels and advocate for reduced use of road salt. The group has recorded high chloride readings in cities across the Midwest and the Northeast, with the highest concentrations in Michigan.

Task Force asks Biden administration for $425 million for Great Lakes Restoration Initiative

A bipartisan Congressional task force has asked President Joe Biden to dedicate more money to the Great Lakes in his 2024 fiscal year budget. That's up significantly from last fiscal year's $368 million.

Now is the time to plan out your 2023 vacation days – and travel, according to advocates for time off and tourism. Today, Jan. 31, is National Plan for Vacation Day. The day aims to “encourage Americans to plan their vacation days for the whole year at the start of the year—and inspire them to use those days to explore the USA,” according to the U.S. Travel Association.
