Julius Randle, Tom Thibodeau need to flip Knicks script again

ATLANTA — It has taken a week for the Knicks to reach their first critical mass. Seven days. Three games. A week ago, Sunday morning brought effervescence and optimism, the likes of which have been in rare supply around Madison Square Garden. Even in a jaded basketball city, it was hard to contain the fertile imagination of a fan base:

Knicks vs. Hawks live stream: Watch NBA playoffs, TV, start time, Game 4 prediction, odds, point spread, line

Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks put on an absolute clinic from beyond the arc to overcome the New York Knicks and take a 2-1 series lead Friday night. After squandering a second-half lead in Game 2, the Hawks took care of business at home behind great shooting from long range (59.3 percent), and a well-balanced attack to make life difficult on the Knicks' defense. Derrick Rose once again shouldered a majority of the offensive load for New York, minimal help from others -- including another rough night for Julius Randle -- was not enough for the Knicks to steal a game on the road.

New York Knicks: Solutions for their center problem(s)

The Knicks need changes at center, now and moving forward. For all the talk about the Knicks‘ starting point guard, one could make the argument that it’s really a non-issue: they have both the short-term answer (Rose) and potentially the long-term answer (Quickley) in uniform already. Throw in the cap space and intriguing draft prospects, and this seems like an easy fix.

Knicks desperately need to unlock Julius Randle: ‘He’ll figure it out’

Rose, Randle rally Knicks past Hawks to tie series at 1-1

NEW YORK -- — Down 13 points, the New York Knicks needed a change in the second half beyond starting Derrick Rose. They needed the Julius Randle they saw in the regular season. Rose scored 26 points, Randle shook off a miserable first half to lead a third-quarter turnaround and...

New York Knicks: Taj Gibson and Obi Toppin are flourishing in the playoffs

The New York Knicks’ bench frontcourt is stepping up big time. The New York Knicks fell behind 2-1 in the series, but a game two victory helped provide some hope for the rest of the postseason. After falling behind by 13 points at halftime, the New York Knicks clawed their way back to a 101-92 win that originally tied up their playoff series with the Atlanta Hawks at 1 game apiece. The win was even more impressive when you consider the team’s struggles in the starting frontcourt.

When the Knicks Are Good

The city is abuzz. You can barely remember the last time it felt like this. Certainly not since the last time the Knicks were in the playoffs. When was that . . . May 18, 2013? Before being eliminated at around 11:09 P.M.? Or something like that—again, you can barely remember.
