Kingdom Hearts 1.5, 2.5, 2.8 and III Headed to Nintendo Switch via Cloud Next Month

With Nintendo being the home for many spin-off Kingdom Hearts games over the years, as early as Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the Gameboy Advance, it was a little surprising that none of their consoles ever received a mainline instalment in the series. But that is (finally) set to change on 10 February 2022, with Square Enix confirming that all previously released game collections will be available to purchase and play on the Nintendo Switch via the Cloud.

Kingdom Hearts Arrives on Switch in February via The Cloud

Square Enix today announced when the cloud versions of the Kingdom Hearts saga will finally release on Switch. Switch owners will finally have access to the Kingdom Hearts saga on February 10, but with a huge caveat. While Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (DLC) are available on Switch, these are cloud versions that require a constant internet connection to play. Sensing this might be an issue for some users, Square Enix has released demoes for all three titles for players to test their connections.

In 2022, the series Kingdom Hearts celebrates its 20th anniversary, and on this occasion, Square-Enix plans some festivities around the anniversary of one of its most important licenses. The first milestone will be the arrival on Nintendo Switch of the entire saga, as announced last year, and we finally know when Sora, Riku and the others will land on the console, at least in cloud.

Kingdom Hearts 20th anniversary event set for April 10

The Kingdom Hearts series will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, as the original PlayStation 2 game was released on March 28, 2002 in Japan. As part of that, Square Enix has announced a special Kingdom Hearts 20th anniversary event for April 10, 2022 in Tokyo, and video will be made available later. The event will feature a mini-concert playing some iconic Kingdom Hearts songs, a Q&A session with the developers, an “exhibition,” and more. Hopefully, there will be some exciting video game announcements as well, as the ending of Kingdom Hearts III and Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory left fans asking questions about the series’s future.

I Can’t Wait To Battle Yozora With Nintendo Switch Cloud Lag In Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece

The Kingdom Hearts games making their way to Nintendo Switch is a rather humorous yet distressing Catch 22. While requests for these titles to make their way to the platform have been numerous since the console’s release, I don’t think anyone ever expected the games to arrive via Cloud. I believe it’s safe to assume that every game pre-Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage could run perfectly fine on Nintendo Switch without any need for Cloud implementation. Still, this is the reality of the current situation, and it will likely make the Switch the worst platform to experience these titles.
