He was a decorated four star General Vietnam war veteran, national security advisor and the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Powell’s military career brought him to Fort Leavenworth knbc nights. Michael Mahoney says he has a lasting legacy on the post. There is a bust of Colin Powell on the post. It is not far from the Buffalo Soldier Monument tribute to the black soldiers of the west. When Powell was on the post as part of the command staff, he would regularly job by the gravel road named for the ninth Cavalry, one of the black regiments. And he wondered, is this all that we have to commemorate buffalo soldiers in the army. And I think that was the birth of the dream of creating the Buffalo Soldier monument here at Fort Leavenworth. He helped organizing fundraise for the statue and on his post statue, he is listed as the driving force of the monument. My experience with General Powell was flying him back and forth either from Leavenworth to Washington or Washington back to Leavenworth humility flew out of the Sherman Army airfield on the post. He remembers a predawn flight when Colin Powell poured a cup of coffee from the plane’s galley and he just stuck it around to me and said, you want a cup of coffee and it’s the only time in a 26 year career general ever made a cup of coffee for me. K State president Richard Myers was the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and served under Powell. This term might not have understood what he was a normal human being. As normal as you can be with all he had accomplished. Powell said is inaccurate claim of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was a blot on his record. Meyer says the CIA gave him that information. Offensive & Defensive Players to Watch: K-State

Breece Hall has strung together two solid showings and he’ll need to do the same against Kansas State. He has 313 rushing yards over the last two games, and he’ll be facing a Kansas State defense that is only allowing 86 rushing yards per game. Kansas State is already pretty battle tested playing both Oklahoma schools, and a season opening win against Stanford.

Lucille Mae Wimmer

Lucille lived near Manhattan, Kansas, until graduating high school in 1938. Her life then took a dramatic turn upon meeting Harry Wimmer, a young K State graduate who had spent 1934-35 in pre-colony Palmer working on his Uncle Harold Thuma’s farm. After a short courtship, Lucille and Harry had just married when Uncle Harold called again needing help on the farm because he was appointed as Palmer’s first superintendent of schools. The newlyweds were off to Seattle via Model A, to Seward via Alaska Steamship, and to the Matanuska Valley via the ARR. They worked the Thuma farm (later sold to Kerttula) and welcomed sons William and Robert into the world.

Week 5 College Football Lines and Picks

Well, the Canes may not being doing well, but here at State of the U, the picks segment is doing just fine. After a 5-2 week last week, my season mark sits at 18-9-1 (66.67%). Hey, that’s a better percentage than Manny Diaz has right now (oof). As always, there...

Grading OSU Football's Week 4 Outing vs. Kansas State on Saturday

Originally published at: OSU gets high marks all the way around. I didn’t get to watch the game because it was on ESPN+ but from reading and seeing the stats seems like a good team win except special teams played poorly and too many penalties in the second half. I’ve been dogging Sanders and I still have my doubts but credit where credit is due and I sure hope this is real progress and he’s building on something. If that’s the case if we ever get healthy and get Bray back with the other Green twin to go with Presley and Martin this passing game could explode with Sanders threat to run. Also was without Brown and Jackson in the backfield so getting them back would have to help as well.

Recent Play Details

Play: 4 units – Kansas State +5.5 (-110) This should be a great game as it is the Big 12 opener for both schools but give me the points and Kansas State in what should be a close game. Kansas State has shown the ability to run the ball on all of their opponents in the early going. I believe that they can get the ground game going against Oklahoma State as well. Both teams are a little banged up but the Cowboys are very thin at the WR position. They were able to make up for it last week by running for 249 yards. The Wildcats though are only allowing 54.7 yards rushing per game. I think K State makes OK State a bit to one dimensional in this game and this game goes to the wire. Take the points and K State.
