Greg Dallas, Jan Esbra - Confluence (2022) [Hi-Res]

Genre: alternative, ambient, electronic, jazz, experimental. Quality: MP3 320 kbps; 16-bit/44.1kHz FLAC; 24-bit/48kHz FLAC. If you are going on a 7 day voyage to unexplored territory, sonic or otherwise then friendship & trust are fundamental. Fortunately Colombian Jan Esbra & American Greg Dallas’ decade long personal affection, musical admiration, electronic curiosity and improvisational leanings born from their jazz guitar roots were all steady hands on the rudder during this intense & unpredictable creative outpouring. Remarkably they travelled light, only utilising a synth, an old piano and two guitars - all fed through various effects pedals which largely disguise their identities. Even more remarkably this is Greg’s debut and Jan’s sophomore LP.

Mark Small (*) pays tribute to the massively influential guitarist and educator Mick Goodrick. On 16 November 2022, American jazz guitarist Mick Goodrick, a sought-after performer and educator who deeply impacted three generations of guitarists around the world, departed this life. He passed away peacefully at his home in Boston, Massachusetts, surrounded by close friends. Despite obituaries in notable publications citing various illnesses as the cause of death, those who knew Goodrick best say there was no definitive diagnosis for the medical issues that beset him in recent years. Put most simply: he battled a progressive degenerative disease that limited his mobility and prompted his 2020 retirement from Berklee College of Music, where he had mentored countless students for three decades.

How the Dopest Playlist on Broadway Came Together

There’s plenty to mesmerize an audience onstage at Topdog/Underdog, the Pulitzer-winning play by Suzan-Lori Parks on Broadway now in a limited engagement (through Jan. 13, 2023). The production — starring Corey Hawkins (who portrayed Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (an Emmy-winner for HBO’s Watchmen) in roles originated by Mos Def (Yasiin Bey) and Jeffrey Wright, respectively — has received rave reviews for good reason: the story of two brothers (named Lincoln and Booth) bound by a gradually-revealed, traumatic family history and a love of the three-card monte street hustle, is by turns hilarious, haunting and heartbreaking, and Hawkins and Abdul-Mateen give performances that seem destined for Tony nominations.
