After 15 seasons in the NBA, guard JJ Redick announced his retirement from the league in a video posted on social media today. Redick, the former No. 11 pick of the 2006 Draft, played for six teams in his NBA career and spent last season with the New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks, averaging 7.4 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and shot 37.1% on 3-pointers.

Nets lose potential mid-season acquisition with JJ Redick retirement

The Brooklyn Nets have been vacuuming up any veteran free agent who wants to chase a championship ring so far this offseason, and JJ Redick seemed like a somewhat natural fit. In fact, the former Duke star was doing everything short of admitting he wanted to play in New York over the last few months.

J.J. Redick was the unlikeliest of Orlando Magic heroes

No one would blame you for being skeptical of J.J. Redick when the Orlando Magic made him the 11th pick in the 2006 Draft. Redick had made his name in the college ranks as one of the best shooters in the league — what team does not need shooting? He was polarizing, most of all because he went to Duke and was so unstoppable without being the typical one-on-one superstar guard. Nobody knew if he would translate.

Duke basketball: JJ Redick could retire as a champion

A Duke basketball great appears to be playing the end of his career by ear. As things stand, it looks as though Duke basketball legend JJ Redick is simply soaking up the good life as a popular podcaster and charitable multimillionaire. Last season, in part due to a heel injury and, well, you know, old age, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard failed to average double-digit points for the first time in 11 years.

Los Angeles Lakers: Why JJ Redick no longer makes sense for LA

The Los Angeles Lakers have brought in various veteran players on minimum contracts this offseason. In fact, despite the age of the team, Rob Pelinka actually did a wonderful job of putting together a deep roster of legitimate rotation players. Not every team can say they have 13 guys that can all actually play a role in the rotation.

Brooklyn Nets might not have an open space for JJ Redick

The Brooklyn Nets likely won’t be able to spend big money in free agency with all three of their superstars in place, meaning that they will likely need to fill out the back end of their roster with older players trying to secure a championship. JJ Redick certainly fits the bill for Brooklyn in that regard.

No one ever doubted JJ Redick could shoot. It was clear that he had a golden arm early on. But there are a lot of other aspects of basketball that matter too, like heart and desire and Redick revealed just how much of that he had in the 2003 ACC Tournament.

JJ Redick likely to wait until season to sign with a new team; reportedly prefers Knicks and Nets

With the majority of the free agency period now over, there are only a few big-name veterans left on the market with the potential to stick in a playoff team's rotation. One of them is JJ Redick, though he isn't coming off of a particularly productive season. The 37-year-old sharpshooter averaged only 7.4 points per game due in part to a heel injury and he publicly voiced his disappointment with the New Orleans Pelicans for trading him to the Dallas Mavericks at the deadline rather than buying him out and allowing him to choose a destination.

JJ Redick Praises Kawhi Leonard's Physique and Calls Him a 'Robot'

Kawhi Leonard often draws robot comparisons due to his quiet and meticulous approach to the game; however, former Clipper JJ Redick took that comparison to another level on a recent podcast episode. In a recent episode of his "The Old Man and Three" podcast, JJ Redick was joined by Sacramento Kings' budding star Tyrese Haliburton.

YouTube Gold: JJ Redick Torches Georgetown

Duke has never quite had a player like JJ Redick. When he came to Duke he had a golden arm but the rest of his game - or body - wasn’t as good. Coach K met with him after his sophomore year and told him he wasn't worthy of being a national champion.

Should Sixers Consider a JJ Redick Reunion?

The NBA free agent pool has almost completely dried up at this point in the offseason, but there are still some names out there that might be able to help the right team. Among players still without a deal for next season is veteran sharpshooter JJ Redick. Redick just turned...
