Islanders face enormous task of going from contender to champion

They took the semifinals and the defending champs to the limit, to Game 7, to the final frenzied minute, in which the Islanders swarmed around and in front of Andrei Vasilevskiy’s net, desperately looking for the puck and the bounce that could extend their magic carpet ride into one more overtime.

Canadiens to play Lightning in Stanley Cup Final

The Montreal Canadiens will play the defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final. "They're going to get the best team they've played against so far, and we're going to get the best team we've played against so far," Tampa Bay captain Steven Stamkos said. "You don't get to the finals by luck. Every team that gets there deserves it. They've had an unbelievable run.

The Islanders Kept Things Interesting, While The Canadiens Shocked Us All

Neil (Neil Paine, senior sportswriter): It wouldn’t be the Stanley Cup playoffs without some wild results, and the semifinal round has certainly delivered in that department. On Wednesday night, the New York Islanders overcame a 2-0 deficit (and an 8-0 loss the game before) to force Game 7 against the defending-champion Tampa Bay Lightning before a raucous home crowd on Long Island. And on Thursday, the Montreal Canadiens finished upsetting the heavily favored Vegas Golden Knights with an overtime win of their own, stamping an extremely unlikely ticket to the Stanley Cup final.

BHN Daily: New York Islanders’ Trotz Falling From ‘Saint’hood

My how the tables have turned for the New York Islanders crying foul with the officiating in their semifinal series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. A missed too many men on the ice call in Tuesday night’s Game 2 led directly to a Tampa Bay Lightning goal in their convincing 4-2 win over the Isles, and after the game Islanders head coach Barry Trotz made certain to make mention of the incident. That was quite the turnaround for Trotz after he played the role of “respecting the referees” during the second round series against the Boston Bruins when a series of key calls went New York’s way.
