Iowa State basketball proving early success isn't fluke with first win over Iowa since 2017

AMES – The game was veering toward being over when Tyrese Hunter took the wheel and got it there in a hurry. The Iowa State freshman found himself alone in the open court with the Hilton Coliseum crowd on their feet and ready to ignite. Hunter lit the fuse as he rattled the rim and put the exclamation point on a Cyclone blowout before the second half had even reached its midpoint.

Iowa State 73, Iowa 53: Shot Brocked

Zero first half points for Keegan Murray is the symptom to the disease that is getting blown out to Iowa State in Ames, 73-53. Iowa enjoyed a brief four-point lead five minutes into the game after Tony Perkins made his free throw following a foul to make it 15-11, but the Cyclones then went on a 15-2 run that culminated in Izaiah Brockington knocking down 17 first-half points.

WILLIAMS: Hilton + this Iowa State team = the perfect pair

AMES — I am in a text group with a couple of good friends who follow Iowa State basketball as closely as I do. We are an odd group but, like you, are damn passionate about the Cyclones. “Better watch out because Fran is going to light them on...

Peterson: Recruiting guru T.J. Otzelberger is looking like a pretty good head coach, too

AMES — We knew T.J. Otzelberger could recruit. As an assistant, he helped lure some of the finest men’s basketball talent Iowa State has seen. Georges Niang, Abdel Nader, Matt Thomas, and Naz Mitrou-Long.  Wesley Johnson played while Otzelberger was an assistant. And Craig Brackins, too. Don’t forget Diante Garrett, Scott Christopherson, Mike Taylor...

IOWA CITY — As soon as Iowa's men's basketball team left the floor on Monday night, they were ready to get right back on. The Hawkeyes lost to Illinois 87-83, marking back-to-back losses after a 7-0 start. Iowa players thought it was a winnable game, and they pointed to little things that could've turned the tide in their favor if they capitalized.

Iowa State men's basketball sets December visits with Omaha Biliew, four other major 2023 targets

Iowa State men's basketball is striking while the iron is hot. The undefeated No. 19 Cyclones are set to host five high-end targets for a mix of official and unofficial visits in December, a source with direct knowledge of Iowa State recruiting told the Des Moines Register on Monday, giving those targets a chance to see the program energized like it hasn't been in several years.

Caitlin Clark, Ashley Joens and why Iowa-Iowa State knows no bounds

THEY DON'T TEXT or meet for coffee. "Friends" may be the quaint way to describe them, but "rivals" is just as accurate. There's an old photo of Caitlin Clark and Ashley Joens that captures their youthful harmony and singular focus. It was taken in the summer of 2017, when 11 teenagers from Iowa made it to the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League finals in Chicago.

T.J. Otzelberger's remarkable Iowa State turnaround has people buzzing about Cyclones hoops again

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Iowa State basketball team is 6-0. Think about that. Less than a year after one of the worst seasons in program history, T.J. Otzelberger has guided the Cyclones to three times as many wins as it had in all of 2020-21. In less than nine months, Otzelberger has already restored order in Ames by creating some early-season college basketball chaos.
