State Rep pens letter to Peru Police about Day investigation

PERU – A State Representative and Chairman of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus is asking the Peru Police Department to turn over Jelani Day’s case to the Illinois State Police. The letter by State Representative Kam Buckner formally requests that the Peru Police Department allow the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation to immediately initiate and lead an investigation into the death of Jelani Day. Buckner states that the current investigation has included, “unsettling discrepancies and inconsistencies including with the analysis of surveillance video and the securing of the crime scene among other issues.” Peru Police Chief Robert Pyszka said Thursday afternoon they had not officially received the letter.

Weapons charges filed in several cases

EDWARDSVILLE — Several firearms-related felony cases were filed Oct. 19 by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. Levell A Douglas, 34, of the 300 block of Osprey Drive, Pontoon Beach, was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class X felony; and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, a Class 2 felony, after an incident where another person was shot.

Dolton Police Involved In Pursuit In Which Shots Were Fired On Bishop Ford Freeway

CHICAGO (CBS) — A Dolton police officer was involved in an incident in which shots were fired on the Bishop Ford Freeway Wednesday evening. The shooting happened on the expressway near 130th Street on Chicago’s Far South Side. Illinois State Police said at 6:38 p.m., they were called for shots fired from a wanted vehicle actively being pursued by Dolton police – and also to investigate a shooting in which an officer was involved. No officers were injured. State police were not involved in the pursuit. Investigators shut down the freeway for a short time to investigate, causing a backup for miles.
