'Our hospitals are stressed': COVID-19 levels jump to severe in Bexar County

The COVID-19 risk level moved from moderate to severe in Bexar County as the highly contagious delta variant continues to spread within the city. City officials continue urging residents to masks up and get vaccinated if they haven't already. Mayor Ron Nirenberg reports the latest hospitalization count was 920 as of Tuesday, Auggust 3, with 260 patients in intensive care and 132 on ventilators. One week ago, it was 620 patients. Of those in the hospitals, "about 88 percent are unvaccinated," the mayor notes.

United Regional sees uptick in hospitalized patients

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — With COVID cases drastically rising in the area, officials with United Regional say they are seeing an increase of hospitalized patients as well. CEO Phyllis Cowling says at the beginning of July the hospital was seeing about 5 covid patients a day. Right now they are at 34 patients in the COVID unit. Cowling says that number is better than the hospital’s intake at the end of December when it housed 118 patients.

Area hospitals hit new records with covid admissions

The two hospitals closest to Ozark County announced last week that they had reached new highs in the number of patients admitted for treatment of covid-19 as virus cases surged through the area. Sunday evening, the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services covid-data website showed Ozark, Douglas, Taney and Howell counties in the top 20 counties having the highest covid rates per capita.

20 more positive tests for COVID-19 have been received since Tuesday by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health. Along with 9 recoveries, that raises the number of active cases being monitored by the DPH to 147, and the total number of cases recorded so far to 14,103. Hospitalizations also rose – by one – with 5 now being treated for their symptoms. Sheboygan County’s 7-day average of new confirmed cases is now 17.43. All Wisconsin counties except one are now classified as having a “High” case activity. The exception, Milwaukee County, is experiencing a “Very High” rate, illustrating the resurgence of COVID-19 that most experts attribute to the spread of the highly-contagious “Delta” variant of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus. In Sheboygan County a burden of 166.8 cases per 100,000 persons was reported by the State DHS, and our trajectory was upwards at a rate of 139% over the last two weeks.
