World of Warcraft and Game Pass could be a match made in heaven

World of Warcraft has had a tough couple of years. But with Microsoft’s recent announcement that it plans to acquire Activision Blizzard, things could be looking up for the giant, aging MMO. If Microsoft were to marry World of Warcraft to its growing Game Pass service, which now boasts 25 million subscribers, we could see influx of new and retired players — something Blizzard Entertainment very much needs right now.

Final Fantasy 14 and its highly-anticipated expansion, Endwalker, will go back on digital sale on January 25, 2022. Developer Square Enix temporarily suspended sales for the highly successful MMORPG last month to keep up with the high demand and better manage lengthy queues for fans trying to join the game. To compensate, the publisher gifted players with two weeks additional game time after previously granting an additional seven days just a couple of weeks before that, too.

Square Enix will start selling Final Fantasy XIV again this month

Popularity, I have learned from American teen television shows, isn't all it's cracked up to be. While Square Enix haven't been bombed by the local mafioso, joined a murderous D&D cult, or discovered their dad is a serial killer and they too have the serial killer genes (thanks, Riverdale!), they did find such overwhelming success with Final Fantasy XIV that they temporarily stopped selling the MMORPG. They couldn't expand servers quickly enough to meet demand, see, leading to login queues and frustration. But now things are settling enough to to start selling it again, and they have big plans to expand servers.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker – 25. Review Journal Book XXV: Footfalls

2019’s Shadowbringers was an absolute triumph. Between 5.0 proper and 5.3, the main story solidified itself as not only the best in Final Fantasy XIV’s history, but also as one of the best in the entire series. I wrote multiple glowing reviews of the patches, but in the back of my mind, I was always worried about the next expansion. Shadowbringers was just so amazing, and it was hard to imagine that Square Enix could match it, let alone top it. However, I’m pleased to say that those fears ended up being unwarranted. Endwalker is just as good as, and in some ways even better than, its predecessor, and I found myself surprised that they not only pulled it off, but that I ever really doubted they would in the first place.
