Resting before the big night: Santa’s hooved helpers visit Boonville

BOONVILLE, New York (WWNY) - With the snow flying in Boonville, you could almost mistake it for the North Pole. But wait — what’s that? Yes, two of Santa’s reindeer!. “We have a couple of our annual friends that come visit us at the village green here in Boonville,” chamber of commerce communications director Josh Fitzgerald said. “We have a momma reindeer and her calf.”

Deck Your Halls With Helpers

Ah, the holidays … the most wonderful time of the year. Until you remember that the in-laws arrive in three weeks, your shopping list is nowhere near complete, the kids have multiple Christmas plays, you haven’t thought about a holiday menu, you have a huge client meeting approaching and the ornaments are still covered in dust in the attic.

Santa's helpers are in Indiana

SANTA CLAUS — Pat Koch stated that the postmaster in Santa Claus took it upon himself in 1914 to begin to respond back to the letters that children would address to Santa himself. The Santa Claus post office is the only one in the world that has the Santa...

An Official Santa’s Helper Is Retiring – Unbelief The Cause

For more than 15 years I’ve been an official helper to the man in red who hangs with reindeer and drinks cocoa with elves. But this may be the year I retire. It seems children don’t believe anymore. In the high-tech society we live in, children no longer...

Helpers, employees, and owners: Opportunities for women’s empowerment in agricultural value chains

Rural development projects face the challenge of meeting multiple goals such as reducing poverty and empowering women and/or reducing gender inequalities. Many projects focus on value chains, specifically on increasing women’s participation to increase their incomes, thus empowering women and reducing poverty. However, there are few studies that have compared women’s empowerment in different value chains or across different nodes of value chains or by women’s roles in them for Latin America. In this study we examine different indicators of women’s empowerment between the production and processing nodes of two agricultural value chains – cashew and dairy – to better understand if/how women’s participation in value chains is related to their empowerment. We use both qualitative and quantitative data, to address this issue. The quantitative data comes from four intra-household surveys that sampled households participating in each of the nodes and value chains (i.e. cashew production, cashew processing, dairy production, and dairy processing). The surveys include data about the households, agricultural production, processing activities, and indicators of women’s empowerment (using A-WEAI). Qualitative data includes information about family participation in productive tasks, decision making, asset ownership, and beliefs about appropriate behavior and activities of men and women and their contributions to production within the value chains. Qualitative data was collected through interviews, participatory workshops, and focus group discussions. The results suggest that levels of empowerment differ (as measured by A-WEAI) between the value chains and across the different nodes of the value chains.

Red Wings' David Perron: Picks up two power-play helpers

Perron registered two power-play assists in a 4-2 win against Columbus on Sunday. Perron has seven goals and 19 points in 24 games in 2022-23. He entered Sunday's contest averaging 16:50 of ice time, including an impressive 4:07 on the power play. The 34-year-old has eight points with the man advantage so far and Perron should continue to make significant contributions in that category as long as he maintains his current role with the Red Wings.

Wild's Ryan Reaves: Two helpers in victory

Reaves logged a pair of assists in Sunday's 6-5 shootout win over the Stars. Reaves picked up his first helper on Jacob Middleton's goal in the second period before adding a second on Jordan Greenway's tally just 15 seconds later. The 35-year-old winger now has three helpers in his last two contests after he was held without a point in his previous 15 games. While Reaves seems to have found a role in Minnesota's bottom six, he's more likely to serve as a physical presence rather than a consistent point producer.

Stars' Joe Pavelski: Logs three helpers in shootout loss

Pavelski recorded three assists in Sunday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Wild. All three of Pavelski's helpers came in the third period, including one on Roope Hintz's game-tying tally. Pavelski now has 20 points (6 goals, 14 assists) in his last 16 games. The veteran forward continues to produce in his age-38 season with 10 goals and 18 assists through 25 games.

Stars' Colin Miller: Helpers in consecutive contests

Miller notched an assist in Sunday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Wild. Miller has put up five assists in his last eight games. The defenseman still isn't a huge source of offense despite his recent performance. He's at seven points, a plus-14 rating, 39 hits, 22 blocked shots, 27 shots on goal and 19 PIM in 24 outings overall.

Blue Jackets' Boone Jenner: Gets two helpers vs. Detroit

Jenner registered two assists in Sunday's 4-2 loss to Detroit. Jenner has a goal and four points in his last three games, which brings him up to nine markers and 18 points in 23 contests. He got off to a cold start in 2022-23 with a goal and four points in his first 10 games, but ever since then Jenner has been a fairly reliable offensive contributor.

Sharks' Matt Nieto: Deals power-play helper

Nieto posted a power-play assist in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Sabres. Nieto hadn't recorded a power-play point since 2015-16 in his first stint with the Sharks, as he rarely sees more than second-unit time. The Sharks' lack of better options up front has opened the door in places, and Nieto has done well as a depth forward this season. He has six goals, five helpers, 47 shots on net, 22 hits and a minus-8 rating in 28 appearances, with seven of his 11 points coming in the last 11 games.

Sabres' Victor Olofsson: Nabs power-play helper

Olofsson logged a power-play assist and went minus-2 in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Sharks. Olofsson snapped a three-game slump with his helper. The 27-year-old had an uneven November, registering five goals and an assist in 14 games while seeing his role gradually decrease to bottom-six duties and power-play time. He's picked up 11 goals, two helpers, five power-play points, 59 shots on net and a minus-8 rating. He needs to score consistently to be on the fantasy radar.
